I had to let my big boy go tonight.
2 weeks ago he suddenly began vomiting during dinner & couldn't hold anything down.
Testing followed by exploratory showed a softball sized x 2 sized tumor - we declined to wake him up from anesthesia.
Life sucks bad right now.

My best buddy.

Sorry to hear it, gw. It's been a while since we had to do the same. Still miss him every day, haven't gotten a new one, can't do it yet.

It will be rough as you know GW. I lost a great one 3 yrs ago, still have dreams sometimes and at night when outside I sometimes have a momentary sight of him patrolling. My newest guy is a love and comfort, but I still have the spot in my heart for the old guy. Anyway, you know this. These abrupt endings are miserable

You can take one guess and you'll know what his name was. I had a border collie that meant everything to me.

I feel so fortunate to have had him as a companion and the memories I have, especially that he and I made it to our new home, together. That dog kept me out of a lot of trouble, he was sensitive and smart. I needed that dog, the way he helped me get through life. He was right there by my side, just after the move, when I installed our new custom mailbox. It was like he waited to go until he knew I was starting to get settled with a new chapter of my life and then he was gone only months after the move. He may escape my thoughts at moments, or even for days at a time now, 8 years later, but my dog is still always with me.

As long as you love him & always keep him with you in your heart he will love you ,live with you forever & always be your friend . You are his energy now .Don't ever let him go.

All the comforting words I know & have spoken myself to others.
He was only 8 and yet was inextricably linked to me - I so looked forward to 4 or 5 more years with him.
I couldn't even go to the head or tend the garden without him sitting - watching - guarding (?).
My life is (more than) just a bit duller now.
RIP buddy.

Ordinarily he would be laying at my feet on his rug while I type - compulsively I look down hoping beyond hope that he's there & that it's just some twisted dream my brain made up.

*Sigh* - it's not to be.
