Picograv and the Linear LED Garden

Hello all,
Last weekend we worked hard to get all 32 five gallon pots filled and potted with the babies we started, also put in a good mix of clones.



The seeds were started yearly March and had about 2 months of CFL light. In addition to the Purple Platinum and Strawberry Chunk seeds, we also started some Gorilla Glue and Venice Beach Afghan.

Here is a list of what is in the garden;
Purple platinum (6 from seeds)
Agent orange, (Clone AO3 x 3, Clone AO4 x 1)
Gorilla Glue (4 from seeds)
Venice Beach Afghan (1 from seed)
AC/DC (1 clone)
Mazar X White Rhino (1 clone)
Strawberry chunk (11 from seeds)
SFV OG Kush (1 clone)
Granddaddy purple (1 clone)

Here is our soil mix;
3 bags of Happy Frog
2 bags of Ocean Forest
2.5 Cubic feet used soil
One HUGE bag of perlite
Amendments
Coco (broke up by hand)
Bat Guano
Rock Dust
Alfalfa Meal
Crab Shells
Blood
Kellogg Organic Fertilizer
Neem Seed Meal
Kelp Meal

They are in the Linear LED room under about 500 watts of pure LED light. We are using 2 x 4000K Vero 29s and 4 x 2500 Decor Vero 18s. Linear means we drive all our LEDs with very high quality powers supplies using traditional parts. The main difference when comparing these power supplies to a switching supply is that we never change or alter the AC frequency. You will never have AC line distortion, no matter how many lights you want to run. Every light is also isolated from the power grid with a large transformer, similar to what a ballast does with HPS and HID lights.
The first working prototype with a completely custom power supply is working great and runs at >90% efficiency at about 300 watts of actual LED power into the two Vero 29 COBs.

interesting...how is the heat from the power supply and heatsink at 300w?

Simple LDO regulator, although every parts value is carefully selected so it self regulates.

Air Cooling is a must, unless you don't mind having a heatsink the size of a small house.

This will be the third run with the Decor Vero 18s...

Were they always decors..sorry. Been a while since i've seen the thread. Yah, i figured aircooled...didn't see a fan

Looks awesome Pico, how much head space do you have and how close do your plants get to your light source? I appreciate the thread and really appreciate your reply~

I had not installed the fan in those pictures. The Vero 18s where always the Decors, I like how they look compared to the 2500k vero 29.

I have about 9 feet, I lole keeping the lights very high. I've never had a problem with these not being close enough. There is about 8 inches under the pots to the ground and then the pot, like 16 inches and then 6-7 to the lights. I can measure later and give you a more accurate description.

Between the kick-ass, custom COB-fixture, the electric guitar, and the highly-organized/linear grow room , I'm lost in awe!

It's a Schecter but can't tell if it's a blackjack or not.

I have a c1 hell raiser in Olympic white with the Floyd bridge.

I picked up my first acoustic guitar (Yamaha F335) just a few months ago and have played it nearly every day since.

I'm tempted to pick up an electric at some point but am contempt with what I have now.

Learn on an acoustic and when you go to electric you'll shit yourself when you start to play. "Why did i work my hands out so much?!" I miss my acoustic. But nothing like getting down and dirty.

Thats right its a blackjack, I had to sell my ibanez when I moved

I dont play that much but when I do I use my custom fuzz pedal, basically a univox super fuzz converted to run silicon transistors. I modified some of the stages and used a hand wound transformer for some added smoothness to the fuzz. Nothing else sounds like this thing...

Looking good today, some pictures for everyone. They seem to be grabbing all the available light and our expanding the fan leaves. Some nice node growth happening but still seems like a fight for the top!



Clones doing well but behind the rest.


Look at these crazy Gorilla Glue babies, anybody seen this before? I suspect the seeds might not have been mature.

I've had similar runts from perfectly matured seeds. Nature's freaks happen, and the genetics of GG#4 (???, never heard of Guerilla Gold #4) may contain some less desirable traits: http://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Gorilla_Glue_4/Unknown_or_Legendary/

How many amps does it draw, running on 230V AC?

I'm watching this one, that is one hell of a light.

My buddy got them from some bud he bought, a think about 6 seeds in a 1/2 ounce. Most likely a hermaphrodite, out of the four that sprouted one looks normal, ones top split way yearly on and the other two are just really little.

The 500 watts in the garden now are from the custom setup I have had for awhile. I run the vero 29s at about 4 amps maximum. If you go higher than this you will lose to much of the phosphor and have a spectrum shift, the COB it self can handle about 50 volts but you would need a pelter to suck all that heat away.

I live in a country with 115 volts AC line power, altho the transformers I use are easily switch to 230 volts, not a problem

In a way I am still a starving electronics engineer, once I have a current measuring device I can give you a reading!
