Here is a link I found for the top 10 gardens and arboretums in the Philadelphia area. I wanted to see if any folks in the area would be interested in going on a field trip! Take a look at the link and post what gardens/arboretums look the most interesting to you and if you'd be interested in going to any of them.

I'm always looking for hiking, mountain biking, and camping compadres as well, so if your in the area and would like to get out and do some stuff, let me know :)

I'm out in 523 hours. no time left for outings. but........you gotta check out........Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Rickett's Glen State Park, and the PA Grand Canyon, if you haven't yet. there's a hike called the Pulpit and Pinnacle Rock, across from Hawk Mountain. if you time the hike right, its just scores of circling raptors, seemingly at your fingertips.

or eastern state pen. is always a cool trip.. not exactly a garden per se, but entertaining non the less.. :D
Great place to see at Halloween. I wouldn't go any other time.
Hey Squid I'll go whenever ur ready. I've been to most gardens and can recommend a few not on the list even. Pm me for details. Racer u interested?
I'm soon relocating to New Hope and am close to Bowmans Hill (I think it's called that...I'm pretty tired ATM) wildflower preserve. There's a few others. Morris Arb is cool. Swarthmore college is nice too. Yeah, hmu, I'm always up for a hike.

Do they still have car races to the top of the pagoda?

the Pulpit/Pinnacle hike, across from Hawk Mountain is in this book. I've done about 8 or 10 of these. if you are serious hiker, you must do the Loyalsock Trail, north from Williamsport. a cardiac stress test :)

Eastern State is awesome at halloween, although this year I had to buy tickets a week in advance and they were almost $50.00 a peice if I remember correctly. They did this thing where at the door you could elect to wear a glow necklace around your neck. If you choose to do so it meant you were fair game for the actors-they could grab you, take you into secret passageways, make you part of the show, etc. It was great when a pair of zombie dentists grabed the girl I was with, threw her in the dentist chair, and had a pnuematic drill going in her face- I never seen a girl freak out like that, thank god she was a good sport about it. I thought it was great :)

near World's End State Park there are some great trails, some of which are old native paths. from W.E., Rickett's Glen, and the PA Grand Canyon are an easy ride. if park is full, try Buttermilk Falls Campground; ask for Woody. Forksville General Store has Amoroso rolls shipped up there, and makes a decent steak sandwich. if ya go there, tell Big Mike, the Don of Shunk, Crazy Mike's neighbor, has gone West. DSC01303.JPG

Pa Grand Canyon is hands down the best camping area i'v found in the eastern half of the state. Dispersed free with permit and wood permits available very cheap. Lots to do in the area.. try the Black Forest Inn for a good sammich and cold brews.

A bit further you could get into Elk territory outside St Mary's, i'v yet to camp here tough.

Sounds like a few of you are very close to me here.. back to lurkin.
