Hey led users,

I would like to know, if anyone has completed or trying out a perpetual grow using leds, more towards using only cree cxx or veros. A more ideal perpetual grow would be taking off clones, from healthy mothers and once clones appear to have a root system, to flower straight away. No veg time allowed, only 10-14 days for roots to form from the clones. At the moment on the led threads, I haven't seen anyone flip there plants right away, only seen them veg the plants for awhile and then they flip them. I really would like to see someone build a 600w led cree cxx / vero, have it under 16-23 plants no veg time, and follow Al b fucts style and see if the led would achieve much more.

That's what I do. 1st run under LED's, only 1 week in though. I do veg from 0-14 days depending on the strain so that they finish at an 'ideal' height for me. It's perpetual as in I take in a tray every 2 1/2 weeks and add a new one in its place.

Why do you think it will be different under LED's?

The only comment I have so far is it does not appear to be stretching anywhere near like it did with my HPS(tight internodes, but the real stretch is yet to come, I hope). This means I will have to adjust the size of the plants I put in to flower or move to even more sativa dominant strains(which I like the idea of and was never possible under HPS due to height constraints).

I should also add that I don't think that 16-23 plants under 600w flowered immediately will fill the space. Strain dependent of course, but it wouldn't work for me. I use almost 10x that density. Sounds crazy maybe but I run a very small box(120W of CXB3070s).

much simpler to just have two grow rooms
this is done with a single room, so i don't know what you mean it will be much simpler to have two rooms. Al b fuct does this in a single room with a pair of 1000s over 2 3x3 trays each.

You got it all work out exactly the way I wanted. But I just would like to know how did your grow results show? I don't see any grow threads that flip them straight away, without vegging them. I usually see people scrog their plants and then flip them. Another question is 50w/sqft to cover 4 sog plants each. Will one CXB3590 49w be enough to cover 4 sog plants. These plants will not be top at all, only week 1 & 3 to remove 1/3 of lower leaves & any branches longer than 1" will be cut off. So in the end, you'll be aiming for a huge single cola only.

Main goal aim: Sog and to be able to harvest 1/2 to 1lbs every two weeks. From 16-23 plants under leds, exactly like Al b fuct style, however he uses HPS. 3/4-1oz per plant he is pulling, every two weeks.

Thanks, it did give me a hint of what you can expect doing a perpetual grow. I see that he has achieve 15.5g with the 6th part cup challenge. I know these party cup challenges, are like perpetual grow since you start from seeds and flip straight away in a 475ml cup, and achieving 7-15g average or more seen from others. But instead, do it from clones, grow some roots and flip straight away. Seems like 10-15g will be achievable, don't you guys think?

Does anyone know exactly, what were his lighting specs to achieve his results at the 6th party cup challenge? What I would like to know, is how much sq/ft of lighting was he using. So it will give me some kind of idea of how much plants within a sq/ft. I got 4 cxa3590 each on a heatsink that are 13.77" long x 5.94" wide producing about 50w each. I was thinking, when purchasing my flowering light with new heatsinks, to have 2 cxb 3590 50w/ea on each heatsink producing 100w each. Then having each heatsink to cover a sq/ft each with 4 plants every 50w sq/ft light.

It can be done, yes. But will 50w sq/ft be enough to cover four plants?

i will be trying just that in a little bit once my panel is complete. im interested myself in seeing the results
are you planning to add any 730nm in there? how much light is your panel going to produce, and the area it will cover? How many do you plan to have under there too. I like to start soon too, but have to wait for my flowering light, which will probably take 2 weeks to get everything ready, including the clones and what not. My area will be around 2x5ft 5ft high. Lets match up, and do some research together.

I'm doing 4x4 trays flipping rooted clones. 38 per tray. Usually get 1.2 lbs per tray with 600w hps. Gonna run the same setup with a 600w cxb3590 panel 12cxbs dissipating 50w,each

50 sq watts per foot is plenty, more than plenty. You should probably Lollipop if you want to SOG btw. SOG is nice with LED-no trash, extra frosty. I average 14-21g per 2 liter running SOG Hempy, Maxibloom, Protek...4 per sq foot

I started like that in 4 sq foot...I am doing the same now, but in 16oz cups with some Karma Haze testers from seed in 6 sq feet. It's crazy how many solo cups you can fit.

Anyway, as it relates to your ORiginal question, have you ever read Doc Bud's CFL SOG? I will tell you that he shows that one picture off a lot, but his method is with CFLs=no penetration, and he's doing it in soil so less yield than a hydro, or passive hydro method, but his average GPP(grams per plant) is sick, even with a dialed in strain.

I can tell you having tried something similar both with cfl/LED Bulbs and actual LED fixtures, the LED increases AVG per plant ~4g

Last run was a phenotype finding run. I had 18 different phenotypes(4 different seed varieties) run under a 250w HPS. Very challenging and not representative of what is possible. I needed to do this to find the right mother. Yield was up to 13.5g / plant but avg was much lower. Still pretty decent at 0.7 g/W.

50w/sqft is overkill for top of the line LEDs like the 3590s. I am still playing around with my lights but they max out at 40w/sqft , but expect to run them at 32w/sqft. There are more complicated calculations than W/sqft for LEDs. Take a look for posts on calculating PPFD as well as PAR W/sqft.

I think plant size is quite dependent on soil container size and obviously genetics. Impossible for me to tell you if it will cover 4 plants, it's a bit of a growing experiment to find out exactly the right # of plants. If you are not worried about plant #s I'd put in more as you can always cull a few if it gets too crowded(though I don't really think there is such a thing in a micro SOG).
