Outdoor/Light Dep Season 2014 in Norcal

Hey guys! Been busy the past few months getting settled in up here in Shasta County. Just copped a spot up here and am prepping for the 2014 season. About to throw up a light dep while I continue to develop the new spot and get ready to grow some monsters. :hump: The land is beautiful, lots of flat space with good sunlight. I'm also going to throw up a hoop or two on the terraced hillside. Then spread some monsters out there in raised beds come summertime. This light dep setup will be similar in style to the hoops I had going last year. https://www.rollitup.org/outdoor-growing/657836-mofoos-ranch-light-dep.html

I've been running some different strains indoor at another spot while waiting for the outdoor season to get closer. Ran Kryptonite, Thin mint cookies, Ken Estes GSC cut, SFV OG, and Blue dream. The Kryptonite really came through strong and I decided I am definitely going to run it in the light dep and outdoors this year. I think it's really gonna take off outdoors this year, shes a real beauty. It's a monster in Veg and the bud is super frosty and tasty, smell is amazing, like a grapey creamy smell, I can't quite put my nose on it. Also going to run some Blue dream and maybe a plant or two of the Ken Estes GSC.

Anyways, I've been vegging some Kryptonites for the hoop. Had them under Gavitas for 15 days indoor and just yesterday switched them into the next room with the blinds open so they get some natural sunlight instead. (Check pic 6&7) Going to throw them into the hoop on April 1st and immediately flower them. Had them in 1.3 gallons (7"x7" square pots) but just transplanted to 3 gallon pots. I have them in a soil mix right now and have been feeding them Age Old Organics. Going to transplant into some really good soil from a local nursery and into 15 gallons when they go outside in the hoops.

As far as outdoor goes, I've been debating between doing either 200 gallons or raised beds this year. Thinking of maybe doing raised beds on the terraced hillside come summertime, and some 200 gallons on the flats. Been looking into some really high quality soil mixes for them, and perhaps even tilling out the ground underneath the smart pots. That way when the roots hit the bottom of the 200gal pots they can just keep growing straight into the ground! Gonna run mainly organics and teas too.

I included some pics below. Hope you all enjoy

Pic 1: The terraced hillside, about 45'x15' on each level. Gonna throw up a hoop here now and start a quick light dep.

Another update for you guys. Spent yesterday gathering supplies to build the 1st hoop, and copped a genny and a few other goodies as well! Among that list was a Predator 4000 Generator, a couple yards of soil from the local nursery, and some power tools. Today we went out to the spot today to start construction on the hoop!

20140328_130234.jpg

The supplies you need to build these hoops are as follows:

16'x1"x1" Pieces of lumber
4 Flat brackets with preset holes
4 Corner brackets with preset holes
12 PVC brackets
1" Screws
24 pieces of 2' Rebar
20'x1" PVC pipe
1 100 pack of Zipties

This is a quick and easy hoop set up I learned and changed a bit from my buddys up in Humboldt. Had to tweak with the dimensions a tiny bit to fit it on the second level of the terrace, but it came out great! This lil baby is 42'x10'. The lumber we initially bought were 16' feet long, so we cut the last board to 10' feet so the length of the greenhouse ended up being 42' feet. The terrace was just a tiny bit too short. So I cut the end pieces from 16' to 10'. Then I connected the boards together with flat brackets to create the base and then began to stake 2' long rebar around the outside of the perimeter. The rebar is going to hold down the PVC pipe, so I made sure they were perfectly even, each 3.5' feet (42") apart from each other. Once it was all staked properly we bent the PVC pipes and started to make the hoops. Once all the PVC are set up, I took PVC brackets and fastened the bottom of each side of each PVC pipe into the boards. Then I took the extra PVC pipe and ziptied it to the top of the hoop to act as a 'spine'. Super easy and quick setup! It isn't too tall, so it is easy to tarp all by yourself. Although I'm going to throw some Remay fabric over the tops for when the rain comes the next few weeks, as the humidity would be too high with a tarp.

I also stopped by Kinney Nursery & Topsoil and decided to try out two of their soils.

gardeners_delight_sm.jpg

I got a yard of his "Gardner's Delight" which includes lots of 'premium garden hummus', worm castings, mushroom compost, rice hulls, pumice, and an extra helping of poultry litter. It was pretty cheap at $60 a yard. Decided to blend that as a "filler soil" with their more premo stuff.

norcal-gold200.jpg

Got a yard of the premo stuff aka "Nor Cal Thunder (6% Humisoil)". Runs $120 a yard. The Norcal Thunder has lots of good stuff like worm castings, mushroom compost, forest hummus, rice hulls, pumice, poultry humus, biological based all-purpose organic fertilizer, a probiotic blend, horticulture perlite, CocoNot R (an environmentally safe alternative to Coco Coir, cascade minerals, azomite, glacial rock dust, bat guano, alaskan fish bone meal, non GMO cotton seed meal, high mountain alfalfa meal, mined potassium sulfate, kelp meal, sea weed extract, alaskan humisoil, and a biological fungicide. OKAY, lots of stuff in this shit lol. :hump:

Going to mix these two soils together and try them out in the hoop. If all goes well I'm going to use it for the outdoor as well!

Feel free to chime in and keep me entertained in this thread guys. This is my first real go at keeping an updated thread for my adventures and I enjoy the input! thnaks Guys

Awesome dogs man, I love having mine to keep me sane during Sep-Oct sleeping outside. Looks like a kick ass setup, and you've got this shit planned for an excellent season.

Took some clones off the Kryptos today. Another rainy day inside before they go into the hoop! Ordered some Reemay fabric online, been having trouble finding it up here in Shasta. Does anyone know of any local stores that would carry it up here?
