Learning about edibles takes discipline. Better to waste 60-90 minutes waiting for something to happen and have little or nothing happen, than spend several hours being various degrees of uncomfortable. I only eat, can't smoke, so this process is all I've got. Every new batch I make, I have to start slow and build my way up. I don't make them as snacks, I'll make regular brownies if I just want a treat. They are a THC delivery method, so I figure out the right size piece, and I'm good to go. I tend to make my butter/oil strong, I think the last batch was 4.75oz of top shelf dried bud in 1lb of butter. A little goes a long way.

It is interesting how physical the response to "too much" was for your wife. When I have too much, it's all about the mental side, getting to a place where I have trouble finishing thoughts, or expressing myself verbally. I suppose one could say, 'negotiating reality', or navigating normal conversation becomes a challenge, which I don't find to be a comfortable place to be. Part of that might be because 90% of the growing I do (at my patients request) is sativa or sativa dominant hybrids, so 'too much' is an overly potent sativa high. And part of it I'm sure is just a reflection of who I am. We all have canabinoid receptors in our brains, what we do after we receive it seems to vary widely.
If you look it up, the list of symptoms were not unheard of. I've never experimented much with edibles, so it's all new to me. My wife is fairly cautious about most things and I was surprised when she told me she "had two cookies" but no other drugs were involved. Other than a brownie that she had a long time ago, she had no experience with MJ before now. Lesson learned.

Occasionally, marijuana can produce physical symptoms that are quite unpleasant. For instance, some individuals have experience headaches, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting all of which might be spurred by the mental anxiety incurred from a large dose.

I've come to like my edibles very strong and I make them for me. I have given some to close friends with a warning "this feels like a narcotic if you eat to much" . These are people that I trust, and wouldn't you know every one of them got to fucked up on my shit because they didn't listen to me. I just laughed....:bigjoint:

I didn't mean to imply that it was unheard of or unusual, I just found how differently we all experience things to be interesting. I have definitely had too much pot and was totally uncomfortable, and couldn't wait to come down. It's a horrible place to be and I feel for anyone who finds themselves there.

Stands to reason since each and every one of us are different. We may all be connected in some way, but effects are different for everyone ;). Yeah, the strong edibles I eat would make (and have made) people feel uncomfortable and just because you can smoke an ounce in a sitting doesnt mean that you can eat the same; it may very well take very little to have noticeable effects for you there.

Nice harvest FD looks like your set for the year...trimming arrgghh I find the more I trim the bushier the buds look. It's not an old mans game this trimming business.
So You and Jetson have grown Mastodon...I've been wondering what the buzz is like?
SD - I haven't grown Mastodon. I am a fan of OGS's work and was just looking for feedback. And I agree, re: trimming. It almost became work at the end, and that was just with two plants. Had all four of my plants made it: yowza!

I also have a lot of trim destined for canna-butter. Back in the old days, I made a pretty good gingerbread, using shake I would scrounge from the growers I knew. It will be curious to compare memories from 20 years ago to something with a properly prepared butter. I've had edibles since than, and it's a different high that I enjoy. On the smoking tolerance spectrum, I would rate myself a lightweight. On the edible scale, a light-mid weight. When I get clobbered, I just want to lay down in the dark and enjoy the show.

I posted that bit about the overdose just to say that the stuff seems pretty strong. Didn't really mean to get into a discussion about it. But as usual, the posters at RIU give really good information. I'm liking the smell of Mastodon as I work with it and look forward to giving it a smoke test in about six weeks or so.

Question on trimming. Not having done it before, I've been going through the bud and pruning out all the leaves by finding and clipping the small leaves at the stem. Takes forever. I see photos of buds with leaves just manicured. What remains is a much more aesthetic bud, involves less handling and is a whole lot faster/easier. Any suggestions on how you or other posters do it? Not wanting to start a controversy, just looking for advice.

Me? I clip off the larger, easiest leaves first. Than I go over the cola following the larger leaves down each stem with my scissors tip to the stalk and snip. These would be the leaves that are mostly outside of da bud. The remaining leaves {(sugar) anything with visible trichomes} get sheared off bud level. No gasping: that last pass and the popcorn buds are what constitutes my shake. The rest go in the compost... I'm not sure that dry trimming held any attraction, other than buying me time.

I trim a few of my biggest, best looking buds off each plant. The ones I give away or smoke with friends. But for the rest of it, since I'm going to be the one smoking it, and I don't care, it will be trimmed on the rolling tray. Time is the biggie for me. I just don't have much of it, and have to decide how I'm going to spend it.

I'm also with you Mr. Dog, in wanting to wait a little before issuing a smoke report. That being said, nice smoke so far from both plants... bongsmilie :joint:
Had to chuckle with the USPS scale :bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint:, nice looking bud. Im not a stickler for neatly trimming it all down to to the flower as its mostly all getting consumed by me as well. Mine looks similar to yours when trimmed

I was trying too hard, just like a newbie, because I am, lol. The next round of trimming will go much faster, thanks everybody.

I was planning on doing a smoke test on the BST2 from the GN patch the other night at the camp. But I was dealing with dried bud that had to be jarred and fresh bud that had to labled and hung, and I forgot and smoked half a joint of it without writing anything down. Will have to try again later when I have time to concentrate.

And for trimming music, since I do all my trimming at the camp. and my camp sound system is an old windup weather radio, it's jazz on the Gulf Coast college station, talking heads on Fox Radio or Nights with Alice Cooper. I do hate commercials, so it's usually jazz.
