Opinion on LED's

So considering switching from a 400w HPS to this 300w LED found on amazon. I know its not going to be as good as a brand name LED because its not $400+ lol but I'd like to know if you guys think it will at least give me the same or different (hopefully better) yields.

also, I currently Veg using T5's and CFL's, would that also be worth ditching and just using the LED from start to finish?

here is the link

much appreciated!

I started with 2 135 watt LED's from blackstar that I purchased off of amazon and for 2 grow cycles they worked just fine......I did add another LED that I purchased from California Light
works that I added during the third grow and immediately I noticed how much different the addition of the new light improved my coverage in my grow room.........I have no complaints .
I do have 2 friends that use HID's and have been doing so for many years and they were very interested to see my results.....and I gladly obiliged they were impressed with my final results.
With that being said I do believe that under the right circumstances they are great and by that I mean for me when growing short statured plants they work tremendously but if you like sativas you may not get the results you're looking for. Thats why I only grow indicas. I will continue to use LED's but remember you get what you pay for.......good luck to you !

You're thinking witth your wallet Scrappy. Thinking you are going to get something for nothing and I can assure you that is a big mistake with LEDs and that you will be very dissapointed with that panel's abilities to grow weed. Also that panel probably runs around 150 watts, not "300w" btw and probably uses LEDs that create way more heat than light, so you won't really be replacing a 400.

You can say light is light but the creation of that light is very important with LEDs and IMO that panel has fail written all over it. If you want to save money and replace an HPS figure out how to build a DIY COB light like so many folks do around here. Really simple to build, not nearly as expensive as the "overpriced" panels ;), and you can even build one without knowing how to solder. Good Luck!

The emitters are the key, assuming they don't totally screw up on the driver and the cooling. So I would look at what chips they use and what they actually output more than what brand assembled them into a fixture. LED gets a bad name because there are a number of "trap"/"sucker" brands that overstate specs to such an extent that people are running less than half what they think they are. You have to do extensive homework if you want to buy or build the right LED setup.

Thanks for the replies this is all great info! I figured it would be too good to be true, specially in Canada, everything good is more expensive :P
