Old school sativa under vero 18

Hello, first, sorry about my english. I decided to do a grow with my old school sativa. It is the original elite clone which now is know as Reina Madre, a pure sativa with genetics from Reunion Island. It is a quick sativa, outdoors in North of Spain is ready about 10 october and can be cut way earlier even last week of september if you are in a hurry. Nice flavour, sweet complex aromas and a very cerebral and energetic high. I have been keeping this plant since 21 years ago..yes I am old:). In exterior you can get plants 4 meters tall... It looks like a big equatorial sativa, and can produce a lot if you have a big site outdoors. It strech a lot, sometimes 4 times its vegetative height.

I used a 80x80cms tent and I decided to focus the grow inside the tent in about 6 to 7 square feet,(last week the plants ocuppied the rest of the tent falling by weight...)

I planted 6 clones in 3 colums and two rows,

I use two aluminium bars,80 cms long .Each bar have 5 cobs in a spaced row distributed in this way;
vero18_gen6 5000K cri70 --- vero18_gen7 3000Kcri80 --- vero18_gen6 5000K cri70 --- vero18_gen7 3000Kcri80 --- vero18_gen6 5000K cri70 . (Each main plant stem is centered in a 5000k cob)
I drive them with a combination of drivers...sometimes dimming them or using less poweful drivers at willl.

They were planted in coco and perlite mix in airpots, hand watered all the process, ph corrected water and foliage pro and bloom nutes from dyna-gro, nothing more...I have found that sometimes the secret is simplify.

I have plant this strain with diodes before... but they were not cobs...usually got about 0,8-1 gr/watt in 10 weeks of flowering time. I can cut at 8 week but the result is a too speddy product and you do not need coffe in the morning if smoke it.

well lets start...

First 15 days they were at 18/6 only the 5000k cobs used 100 watts total
Started flowering 11:30/12:30 5000k cobs only at 150 watts aprox
3 days in flowering pics
At this moment a thrip infestation appear, initiated neem treatments and they seem to vanish without problems

33 days in flower, I added 50 more watts in 3000k so total 100 watts 5000k plus 150 watts 3000k
A problem of overfertilization appears..this plants are using much more water than usual in spite that It is not hot 20 celsius in roots and 26 at the canopy top
I added too much nutes..I should take in count they were drinking a lot...the leaves from this moment become more like claws..but I tried to fix problem and they only tips burned.... they are soft and not crispy.

40 days in flowering same light routine. I decide to mantain the natural arquitecture of the plant, not to trim, not defoliate, not lollipoping except some very little branches at the bottom, want to see if I can grow well indoor this big sativa. At this point stretch is finished anf total height will be about 90 cms, it started flowering at 30 cm...not bad for this strain which usually strecht more, sure than using lot of 5000k has to do in it

58 days in flowering , dimm the 3000k for better display of colors in the picsIMG_20170520_002020.jpg IMG_20170520_002529.jpg IMG_20170520_001845.jpg IMG_20170520_001920.jpgIMG_20170520_002000.jpg IMG_20170520_002042.jpg IMG_20170520_002052.jpg IMG_20170520_0022361.jpg IMG_20170519_215621.jpg

Trichomes are still mostly clear, I will cut in 10 days from now...I hope you enjoyed the pics...
A question for led gurus... I could put until 300 watts of 5000k without 3000k cobs.. Did the trichome production be better than use 150 watts 3000k plus 100 watts 5000k wich is the light I using now? during the last 10 days?

I have a sativa dominant mystery plant that I'm trying to finish and talk about stretch...
That was my first problem with this strain...always bending it for years, and unable to grew it in limited spaces ....
I decided to do not lollipop and let all the lower branches be alive until stretch stopped cause I understand that auxines will be better distributed...also lot of 5000k until stretch finish...
Tried using benzoaminepurine some months ago as an experiment...but flowering delayed a week and terpenes were not as present...

Nachooo,
You need not apologize for your English, sir! You are much more understandable than most of the American half wits who write as if the letters and punctuation spill from their heads with no organized thought.

That's a significant discovery about 5k limiting stretch. You did very well with low wattage, and I'm envious of your results. I like growing sativa when I can get it, and its a fun challenge. I enjoy a partial early harvest for its speedy effect. It makes a great Saturday morning or party high!

En serio, que jardin bella. Disfrute

Thanks for your kindly words. And yes...indica strains make me procastinate a lot! so I prefer pure good sativas with a word of caution..do not use them prior to sleep... Also I have noticed that lot of strains named as dominant sativas make me feel like using a mild indica...only with pure sativas from reputable sources ( few seedbanks and mostly from fellow travelers), I can work and enjoy.

envious of that plant

i adapted an old chinese panel to vero 18's.. they seem good.

way to go keeping your clone going..!!

i am old too..and agree even hybrids with sativa/indica seldom let go of the indica side

about la reunion island normally zamal is the skinniest long flower sativa around.

this is much different

...do you find this clone simlar to the zamal in high?

in wonder if anyone has selfed the Reina Madre

update from Ace seeds fem descrioption

"genetics: Spain - Reunion Island – Congo"

hopefully itb is similar to yours

sativa's r my thing too

again congratuations

Well the original breeder of Reina Madre received some seeds from Reunion Island about 1995..He does not obtain a male and a female, so he crossed it with an old local sativa from south of Spain, and obtained a F1 pure sativa. This is the clone I have (the original one). Some years later he stabilized the F1 after too much work and he used a Congo strain for that, which by the way was a very good sativa also. But the original F1 clone is in my opinion better than the stabilized one, althought they are very similar. The seedbank of the breeder is called Delicatessen seeds and yes, Ac seeds sell the stabilized one obtained from Delicatessen, and some people have selfed it..and the original clone also...but I have kept the clone alive during 21 years cause I think is still better.
I have not tasted zamal strains...but probably the original seeds were related...complex mix of flavours in Reina Madre : licorize, incense, and a little carrot (this one is a tipical african flavour).
The mix with the old local spanish sativa probably gave them more vigor and shortened the flowering time of the Reunion genetics. Anyway I have taste lot of weeds, been even in a cannabis cup in the nineties when the white widows family appear..etc..And I still prefer by far the high of this strain.
The genetics of the local spanish sativa are a mistery. Considering the history of cannabis use in Spain during 20th century, I think it was aclimated in South Spain but genetics probably are from south america or north africa (much more probabilities from south america).
I hope I have solved your question :)

Forgot to say that Jorge Gervantes tasted this clone years ago and he said it was one of the best strains he have seen. It was analized some years ago for cannabinoid content, and I think it was about 21% THC and has CBD and CBN at very low levels 0,1...or something like that.. dont remember that exactly but was impresive

Very nice grow, Nachooo. You really got the best out of that low wattage.
The Reina Madre clone is one of the best genetics I have ever grown or smoked. Super high yield, fast flowering, incredible old school sativa high, very good daytime or party variety. Don't try to sleep on it, though.

He did a great job. Are Vero 18s slightly older and cheaper? They might provide great value for the money.

I used vero 18 generation 6 and vero 16 generation 7 mixed. Bought the first 2 years ago and the latest about 3 months ago... about 12 dollars each one the vero18 gen 7...about 15 dollars with taxes...gen 7 is more eficient than gen 6..I dont remember how many...about 15 - 10 per cent more. They are good for little spaces.
