Your plants are quite a bit leggier than mine are. My internode spacing has always been close, probably the intense CFL I veg under. How long do you veg? I normally go 4 to 6 weeks, maybe longer if mainlining.

always eye ball it. Whenever i feel the need to flower I just do it. But yeah it'd say 4-6 weeks as well.

I've used herbiesheadshop.com and bonzaseedbank.com neither is in the US, but I've had great luck with both. RIU has a seed bank sponsor, midweeksong.

but if all you have is a 300w led than yeah max 2 bro
Hey man! I'm running CFL now. I got a small area I was thinking of going to a sunspect 400 w led. Would this be an upgrade. My climate control is good. And my space is 2x3 with 2 plants. Should I say screw it and go with mh and hps or run the chance and get the led. Just looking for the best yield. I can adjust the other variables.

That's pretty much the same light as the Mars Hydro or GalaxyHydro. They're dirt cheap, reasonably effective and they're not very good. They ain't crap, you can indeed grow good weed under them, but a DIY COB is a lot better.
Check out some of the DIY builds, it's intimidating at first but actually pretty simple once you get it figured out. If you're looking for a cheap DIY, grab 6 VERO 18 chips for 10 bucks each and an HLG-185-1050 for 60 bucks, a big passive heatsink and you're way ahead of the Mars crowd.

What color should I get In those chips. I'm running autos so I'd like a light I can use for veg and flower to keep it more simple.

a lot of factors play into it as well. All said & done I would go with led. In the long run its cheaper and If you live in a hot humid climate like me hps is as no go. Hps will cover more of an area and evenly distribute light as an led is not a big area coverage. When comparing a hps 400 and and led400w of course. Price also plays a big part including the light costs and light bill. If I were you I would get the led and use that cfl to do side lighting. Most people shoot for atleast 50w per/sqft. Overall make it work with the led until you get another led to go right beside it. 2 400w led for 2 plants. Perfect!

Is 11 inches too close for a 300w galaxyhydro? Thanks:weed: ps ive been on cfls and things are looking healthy. Put the 300w on them and might see a decline. :peace:

That info helps. Going to take that advice too, thanks. Btw, do you know if all cfls that are full spectrum are grow bulbs?:peace:

You can find ECOSMART - 5000k ( Daylight ) or Feint Electric 6400k for veg.
OptiLight 2700 k ( these are ridiculously inexpensive ). I like CFL growing ( i am locked to doing Micro / Small grows because of space limitations. )

This a Auto Bubblegum ( i grew PURPOSELY under CFL ) because of what i get from it.
Even though its for my own med use i get nice plants from it . The Key is to "surround " the plant with light. I removed a lower light ( for lower branches ) to take pic. But i think you will get the idea.

I started from seed and get nice thick stalk.

As far as the HYDRO LIGHT - Average height is 18" - 24" from canopy BUT if youhave good air flow and temp control you can bring it closer with out issue.

Hope this helps :peace:

I really like cfls too. The buds look healthy and fuzzy, actually cheerful lol.:weed:

I've been watching them really closely because of the hydrolight I tried to introduce after going 12/12. I tried again and the pistils turn back on themselves, shriveled. So yes, 11" is too close w/o good circulation.

I Didn't realized the learning curve was so high just to grow weeds, I got weeds all over my yard and they grow fine, even though I hate them.

Attached is a pic of my latest cfls I ordered (they last a long time, but it's fun to experiment) these are kindof expensive?

The "key". No doubt, lots of adjusting but the pistils like the nice and close. Thanks for the advice! :peace:

Expensive indeed. I've used CFL for a while too and was happy with the results. I went to the GalaxyHydro and felt like it was a step in the right direction but more like a lateral move than a big step up.
I can't really get the solid bud density out of CFL or blurple LED. The up front costs of a quality DIY LED light are easily justified by the added lighting efficiency and product weight.

I agree growing with CFL / LED or whatever you like depends on how well you utilize the light that each can do .... Most systems have pros and cons , whether penetration , efficiency , heat , cost , etc.

But using some of these " beginner " lights only helps the grower polish up their skills.
I use Mars Hydro Systems because i dont have a dedicated room or space to upscale.
BUT ......

I just harvested a AUTO Papaya Gold ( grow journal ) under my Mars Hydro 600 with a G8 Bloom UFO. It never fails to give me good nugs and results because of how i position the light during flowering ( during week 5/7 i angle light ) and stay using 11/13 schedule. Weight is 488 grams.

I also agree light systems EVOLVE like the current COB builds - as i am building my own right now to see what it will produce.
