Lol I have a hard time smoking flowers now that we mostly do wax. Flowers seem so harsh but it is defiantly more of a well rounded high that is necessary at times.

When I first heard of ISO extraction I said yuk too. Read this entire thread to find the links to either Thundercats or Oakley1984s sticky that covers how they do their oil. I used a hybrid of both their methods it's very simple: freeze your material for a week or so and freeze your 99%(or 91% and dehydrate it with salt) ISO alcohol for 4 days. Then do your wash quickly while squeezing the remaining alcohol out of the material.. Then I did a second wash and then filtered the mixture into a Pyrex pan & put it on top of my dehumidifier on high which blows out warm 80 degree air to be left out overnight. Then I scraped it all up. That's it. At that point you will have oil with air in it...some ppl use low heat to purge to clarity or to get it more waxy but I left it as is & dabbed it.

Just love the high from eating mj & hash. Waste not want not. I throw nothing away. It's either converted to oil or given to friends.Aren't hash plants usually indica? But yeah, I've noticed that the high from my oil, which is made from plants with sativa like high, is different to the hash we used to buy. Much stronger head high with the typical hash body stone.
And to be honest midnite, I've always taken the attitude that there is no such thing as bad pot as long as it does the job, 'There is good pot & there is better pot.' haha.
If it gets me ripped & that's all there is, then it will do & I'll give thanks to the bud-gods

oh I just reread your post... I think if you extracted using butane you must purge with heat and vac pump is recommended which is why I went with ISO. After I leave it out overnight on the dehumidifier my oil came out like amber taffy.What is the consistency after dehumidifying? I didn't know how to handle my 1st few batches so I put my oil in a double bowl hot water bath & mixed some very dry, resin encrusted bud into the bowl to soak up the oil. [sacrilege. I know]. Funny thing is is that I have something that closely resembles fair dinkum hash. Looks like hash, tastes like hash & smokes like hash. One friend said it was "too strong' [no such thing. Smoke less, haha] Can't even see the bud with the naked eye.
'Winterisation' [sorry, still learning]? Don't you guys dissolve the oil in alcohol [or iso, yuk] & then freeze before filtering? Isn't that called 'winterising'?
I'm trying to improve on my initial efforts. I ran butane through 4 ounces of trim into a ss bowl & apart from sitting in a hot water bath for a couple of hours, that's all I've done so far. I'm unable to get my hands on suitable alcohol atm.
If I've read everyone's advice properly, there's a process of 'whipping' the oil during the long slow heat purge before dissolving into a solvent, then freeze, then filter. Have I got this right?
I don't think the long heat purge will hurt at this point. But should I 'whip' my oil now? Or does the oil need to be dissolved in a solvent immediately after whipping? [which means I should wait till I've got some alcohol before I proceed]
I just don't want to stuff 4ounces worth of oil, it looks like I've got at least 7gs worth in the bowl

Hmm I noticed I got a lot out when I squeezed it; the bud was only soaked for like 20 sec. I plan to pull my sativa dom earlier for that very reason thanks for the tip. I'll try to accept the loss but I figure maybe save the squeeze for a 2nd wash? I'm happy with the way it came out the first time so why not repeat with same strain? Seems like accepting losses is part of growing your own; I'm always trying to figure out how to do it better but not always succeeding.

Simmer the amount of butter(or coconut oil, or veg oil) you want to use with the amount of hash you want to use at a low temp, stirring to dissolve them together. Bake whatever you want with this mixture.
Example: I want to make one batch of brownies. So I take the 1/3 of a cup of butter it calls for, then add we'll say 1g or hash to said butter in a double boiler type setup. Simmer and stir, then make brownies.
I have 2g of reclaim I am going to make some candies out of at some point soon.

oh so making hash butter is the same as making canna butter? It's been awhile since I made some brownies but I'm not gonna smoke all that black 25 and 90 micron low grade I have on hand- time to start baking. When you say reclaim is that the oil that drops through your rig? I wasted quite a bit of errl so far & it's caked inside my rig. How do you reclaim it from your pipe? ISO?

wow 24 weeks... Sativas take a special kind of grower. I lack the patience to wait so long but I love sativa strains. I had a hard time waiting 12 weeks for my cotton candy but it is far superior in both taste and potency compared to the indica dom pineapple ex that was growing next to it. I also took advantage of the benefits of partial harvesting...taking colas as they become mature as opposed to chopping the whole plant allows smaller buds a chance to size up a bit and swell out.

It does take a lot of patience..first pic and last are same if you didn't catch,...that's 12/12 from seed, so it takes a lot of patience and it can be very tricky to even keep it going that long....but its worth it..they are the best for hash making(color and texture ect)

Yep when I reclaimed my rig (which is solely used for oil) I just washed it with straight 91%, and as little of it as I could use. Then I did the usual freeze, double filter, and evap. It turned out as a very pretty deep amber oil that is a goo at room temp since it has been vaped and inturn decarbed. I tried dabbing a bit just to see how it was, and it was better then the time I tried doing a 3rd wash
, but it really is gonna go into some candy at some point. I need to get a candy thermometer and some everclear. I found some neat molds for some hard candys.

cool idea...saw some heady candy molds out there to pass around to friends for a goof at crafts supply stores. Figured the reclaim process would be as you say. Oh 12/12 from seed..now I understand why the excruciatingly long flower cycle. With sat doms you can use the stretch as veg growth.

Ok so batch 2 came out less waxy and more like sticky shatter. When I checked on my Pyrex dish left on the dehumidifier overnight it was gone... It had slid off & was laying sideways on the floor... Glad I taped some paper towels over the top to prevent debris. Looks like it happened after the ISO was mostly gone. I dabbed some but tasted like vaping an alcohol wipe. It's not done apparently. I attribute this to lower heat. I'm thinking of putting the dish in a hot water bath to try & clarify it.

Needed a bit more heat.. & it's amber shatter. A hot water bath for 20 mins was all it needed. Now its heart shaped candy yum
