oil slick containers

Make sure you get quality ones. My buddy grabbed some at the local smoke shop, they were supposed to be silicone, idk what they were actually made of, but there was some type of oil leeching out of them. He washed em when he bought em and the next day they had a slippery film in them. Washed again... ..film.

I've heard certain silicone manufacturing processes can trap impurities. There are ways to get them out, but I suspect many of these aren't made anywhere close to those standards.

Ive a set of small silicone mats damn there good.wish i had them 15 year ago when i started
i make b.h.o what a mess that stuff can make especially if you nake it in the morning your fingers are covered all day.....but with the mats you slide your fingers/scalpels over a few times and you can feel the oil going into a ball then you can nip it with the mat and clean your finger/scalpels.
they cost £8 off ebay and are well worth it.
im trying to look on your hash thread smellygreenshit cant seem to get on?

The silicone containers? Bad. I put some best oil into one. It swelled the silicone, and something migrated back that hardened the extract. No bueno.
I put my honey on my mat and keep it in a small tupperware box.never had any problems, its actually the easiest way ive found to keep and use it.
a morrocan dude in the kashmir lounge in amsterdam told me to keep it in a warm place for 2 week for it to cure in the tub,so i did and it was awsum.
my pal had 1 of them containers and it seemed to change the oil,it went dry a bit like hash, turned it shit tho.

From this I would conclude that the mat and the container are not made of quite the same stuff. I wonder about the plasticizers, fillers, curing agents etc. that go into the containers ...

There are a couple different manufacturing processes, something about the binding process. One process is less prone to swell. I did some research after using a cheap pad and getting weird tastes, under vacuum it was releasing something. The better pads are cured using a silver compound, I don't exactly remember. I found some good info on food related sites, no one wants the smell/taste in food either.

That could explain much. Silver compounds are AVOID with Cannabis. Silver ion messes with active double bonds, and THC has those. I found that out the hard way. I polymerized (hardened) a batch of lovely smoke with trace silver in the "inert" carrier I selected. It's like I forgot my soph chemistry, ohhh ... ~facepalm~

Shitt i hope im not slowly poisoning myself, the mats i use are tough a scalpel wont cut through it,it doesnt seem to leave any taste/residue on the gear and i can compare it to the small tubs there crap. if it did taste funny i would bin them tbh and go back to the old skool strepsil packet.
