% of Concentrate Extracted Compared to THC % ? bho/ Bubble?

Hey all-

Here's my question.

If you have some buds that were lab tested at 28% and you want to make concentrates, would it make sense that if you could extract 100% of the thc via bubble or bho methods, you would end up with a 28% return- and anything over this % would be lipids and plant matter? Also, if the said flowers that tested 28% were extracted with a 28% return of concentrates (If you used 100 grams of buds and got a return of 28 grams of concentrates) the concentrates would then be 100% thc? Is this how it works theoretically?

If this is correct, wouldn't it be best to have the flowers tested for thc% before making concentrates, then you would have a ball park of what to expect for returns when making concentrates out of the material.

I know it doesn't always work this way, some flowers testing higher thc % return less than other flowers testing with lower thc %, so why is this? It's just a little confusing and I know I'm missing something here, so maybe someone can help me out. Thanks :peace:

The test starts out with a measured amount usually 1/10 of a gram.

With a bud the percentages are of everything not just the cannibanoids & terpenes

With extracts, you have eliminated the green stuff so you have a higher percentage of the cannibanoids which is why they test at 70 to 90 % THC

But say the lab test shows 25% thc 3%cbd - 28% total- then you have an ounce of the buds and extract them for concentrates, would the return yield be 28% if you extracted 100% of the thc/cbd? I know there's always some lipids and things in extracts, but is the lab test saying that 28% of the total mass of the flowers are thc/cbd, etc? Or is it calculated differently? If it's calculated by mass then I would think that whatever % of thc the lab tests show is the very most % in yield you could get back when making concentrates, so if you use 100 grams of 28% thc bud, you could get 28grams back? Or no? I'm still confused :p

easy answer is No as it will always vary somewhat not to mention there are so many different ways to extract

I'd say you could hit 30% on an extraction with terpene content, perhaps better if done properly with bho.

Right on snaps, I just found the concentrates section, looks like the place to be! Lots of good info, I'll be browsing for a little while to see if I can find my answer, if not I'll post the question again, thanks :peace:

you get about %10 back of what you put in...

example. 100g of plant matter should get about 10g concentrated extract oil.

Our laboratory uses mass weighting to verify/validate inputs and outputs. And yes, it really is a matter of mathematics. It works well enough to let the customer know they are receiving 100% of the cannabinoids extracted from their product. We test all materials before extraction to determine potency as a % of total mass. Then we weigh the material on laboratory-grade, independently certified and calibrated scales. Results are recorded as a baseline. Multiply potency by total mass to arrive at projected weight of extracted concentrate. Then off to the CO2 machine for a butter run and a waste run. After the processes are completed both the concentrates and waste material is weighed a second time. Numbers are then compared to baseline and shown to match. This verifies that all concentrates have been returned and none was "skimmed" by the laboratory.

"Trust but verify" is our position ... a small sample of the results:
