Gun laws wont change fast enough. Need to keep at it, but can't we do something else? Where we just moved from the local sheriff and city chief of police were retraining students for active shooter events. Instead of hiding, they teach them how to quickly and efficiently get the hell out of the school the moment the active shooter alert goes off.

Not trying to make fun or marginalize, but hiding in a classroom is the equivalent of running up stairs in a horror movie. Might be your only choice in certain situations, but most will have the option to flee once it starts.

I'm assuming you have no school age children? Things have changed- schools now have bullet proof windows and doors which are similar to fire doors (heavy)..all the Coral Springs/Parkland schools have armed school cops. This school had an armed cop on property..see? just because you have this it doesn't work..or armed teachers for that matter which was suggested.

What that kid did was, time it so he was dropped off just before 2:30 bell..hit the fire alarm so that would spill everyone out he was able to break one window and shoot within class; he couldn't get the door open by shooting the lock..he tried. He then beat feet by folding his gun up putting in backpack and followed the rest of the kids out..he went through the back of the school which backs up to a fence, canal and pathway. The Walmart is right behind the school..chilled at Subway..kids everywhere.then walked south to the McD. A Coconut Creek cop (next town over) who was patroling the perimeter since every other cop was busy and saw the kid walking and stopped him based upon his shirt color. The kid didn't change his shirt..if he did, he would've walked away.

what needs to change: choosing our law makers based upon how much their campaign raises from other than individual citizen donations..until money comes out of politics our law makers will ALWAYS be beholden to corporate donors and NOT John Q. Citizen..remember him?

i'm fed up with hearing platitudes and 'but what can we do' <shrug>?..we start making DEMANDS and vote for those who can't be bought..like Bernie Sanders! He did just fine without corporate donations and would've won too, had it not been for The Clinton Machine and Corporate Media:wink:

Not fast enough? how's 2/15/17 for fast? President Pedo did this with only 3 weeks in office..don't tell me about 'not fast enough' because i call bullshit on that:

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/15/politics/trump-gun-legislation-mental-health/index.html

I heard Paul Ryan say THIS MORNING 'but we have laws on the books that handles mentally ill people':wall:

what an idiot!

New schools and schools with funding have those things. However, Ive never seen any of it in any of the schools any of my 3 children are in or have been in.

Armed cops in schools can only be in one place at a time, like any other cop. They need a resource officer on duty, but they are not an effective deterrent or intervention unit for these types of things and shouldn't even be considered as such. If he's lucky enough to see someone coming in, then good problem solved, but that is most likely never going to be the case. If no funding for better doors and windows, teach those kids how to run for their lives.

Security guards and bullet proof windows? A lot of school districts can't even afford new books or hire teachers to keep class sizes reasonable. Pay for teachers in many districts is abominable.

How about if we tax gun sales and collect annual licensing fees to pay for school security?

If the money was 100% used for public schools to protect our children, Id be all over a one time fee, and an annual fee Im not sure of. How many people are not going to pay, and who collects this fee, how is it paid, etc. Now we have all this cost of collecting and enforcement of non payers of yet another government fee, and the money will fall through too many cracks through enforcement imo. A one time fee is at the counter prior to taking ownership of the firearm and it costs the people virtually nothing in comparison to an annual fee program as the purchaser and the gun shop owner/seller are the ones using their own time and dime to get the fees paid and sent to the proper collection agency, etc. Just make the fee enough its worth collecting in the first place.

Not a fan of adding security guards to schools. How long before we've hired a bunch of trigger happy cowards who shoot first and ask questions later? What happens when our own children are gunned down in schools by officers claiming they were a threat when in fact they were not? Id rather risk the super low statistical chance of having an active shooter in my kids school than putting cops at all the doors and waiting to see how many start killing kids because they thought they had a weapon. Be like the streets only in the classrooms.

I do like having a resource officer in the schools. Some these kids need more "attention" than what a teacher should have to provide so this is great. But being charged with protecting my kids? No thanks because I know they wont get there in time when it hits the fan.

And teachers are all ready buying so many kids pencils and paper from their own paychecks (just dont complain to a mechanic!). How the hell they gonna buy guns for teachers, magic money?

Round and round we go...

That schools need such a thing is indicative of a problem with too many angry, hyper-violent whites.
Kinda racist but okay. Lots of people hating on whites, just not sure what exactly they are suppose to do about it.

Does skin color make a person do bad things where you are from?

Oh dear, you poor persecuted white guy. It must be so hard being a constant victim of systematic racial discrimination. I guess we'll wait until another angry white with military equipment murders a bunch of students or church or concert goers before talking about how most of the massacres like this are carried out by angry, hyper-violent gun monkeys with white skin. Seems like it happens every month.

So you're suggesting that violence hasn't been bred into white people? You're suggesting that these fucking barbarians haven't dominated the planet for centuries and subjugated most of the globe? You're suggesting that most of the genocidal atrocities in history haven't been carried out by them? You're suggesting that they haven't wiped out entire cultures?

I always assume white people are armed and dangerous and possibly carrying deadly microbes.

While all true, it is not affecting me in the least bit. Why have you allowed yourself to be consumed by hatred towards whites? Why not be a solution instead of fuel to their fire?
