So this is my first post, I have experience growing a wide range of other sort of plants (cactus, fruits, vegetables, trees) but the concept of LED's seems completely new to me.

So my question is, for a person who plans on a small personal grow ~ two plants or so at any given time, what's the best compromise LED wise? Figuring into this, something that can be supplemented/upgraded as time goes on and so forth.
I'm not worried about males since I'm fairly sure I can feminize the seeds myself, so really its just a question of cost/quality/moderate yield. Outside of a dedicated light, I have pretty much everything covered including soil/nutrients/additives from other projects.

And a note, the reason I would rather go LED than anything else is concerns heat wise, the space I'll be using will likely be fairly confined with not a whole lot of fresh air exchange ie closet set up.

2 Plants? I'd go Pro-Grow 180...

It could do 3, but 2 will give you the best results IMO... $300, and they're badass... lol

If you want to spend slightly less, you could go with the Blackstar 240, but the quality/power/coverage isn't nearly the same.

I agree with Beefbisquit. I have a Pro-Grow 180 and it rocks! It produces almost no heat and it is easy to move around. It produces some noise, but less than some fans. I am on the 6th week of flower on my first grow and I have no complaints. The customer service at Hydrohut is top-notch as well. I did tons of research before buying the "perfect" light for my situation. Living in the desert, heat was a major consideration for me, so LEDs were the way to go. Regardless of which light you go with, you will still needs lots of airflow...

Thanks for the replies guys, I did a lot of searching around and checked some of the logs. Got sort of drunk and purchased a magnum plus based on logs of how the old mags played out. It was way more then I was planning on spending, but hopefully it'll pay for itself. Forgot to check back here.

Still waiting on the light + seeds and have started researching the nutrients.

For reference, the two strains I'm starting with are Wonder Woman and Bubblelicious. I don't know whether I'm going to do both at the same time, or if I should pick one or the other. The plan is still going to be 2-3 though. Right now I'm leaning towards using the nutrient schedule/formula mag provides for simplicity.

Anyone have experience/tips on the mag lights?

Look forward to seeing a mag plus grow. hope you keep us updated. nice strains by the way
Thanks, I am planning on logging it. When I do though, I'm going to release the entire log start to finish at once so its all organized on the first page rather than spread out between 50. So expect something in 3-4 months.

For now I'm still doing all the ground work to plan out how the entire things going to work - Grow Area - Nutrients - grow medium - odor control - Light Placement etc. I want to document it properly enough so that it can be duplicated.

I am at about 4 weeks into flower under a PG180 and Blackstar 180 and will definitely agree about the PG180. It's a great light. Well built, runs cool, switchable spectrums, no gimmicky wattage ratings, quiet, and my plants love it. I have a PG550 coming, was slowed due to a back order, apparently they are busy. The customer service was great and also is giving my order express priority shipping for the trouble. Really pleased with the whole experience!

Pics? OK fine. They are just a month into flowering today. This is the Pandora's Box, she has about 5-6 weeks left in her. I also have Sour Bogglegum which will be done in 4-5 weeks.

:weed: Nice plant porn.

If all goes well with the mag I might invest in extra panels for a vertical/horizontal gang bang for the next grow with these other panels.

Thanks, the iPhone camera surprises me sometimes! I am planning a 750W LED SoG with ~400w of T5 Teklights. Well over 8000 lumens per sqft. Mothers will be kept under a T5 or LED in air pots. Haven't decided which lights. The flower room with the 750w LED and T5s will feature the LED panels above with 3 T5 fixtures hanging vertically almost totally boxing them in. Ohh yaa!

Should work great, I've been experimenting with 4-4ft T5's for my tomatoes and peppers and they actually have surprised me. Can't wait to see how they work for a vertical LED set up.
