Noob needs advise on sick seedlings....

Well, I'm not sure if anyone is watching anymore but I thought I'd throw up an update anyhow.

The plants seem to be on the mend, New growth is still emerging and I can see changes daily. New nodes are starting etc...they are also looking a bit more green on the healthy parts of the plants.

So, whoever said "lock out" or deficiency was more than likely on point. I'm glad I went back and did a light feed after being advised to flush at first. (these opinions were coming from here and another source so if things don't completely add up based on whats here it's because i had other opinions form somewhere else.)

Anyhow, I know that this soil is a problem and so i went down and got a bag of pro-mix and once they're strong I'll get them out of this shit and into the better soil. I also got 5-1-1 fish fert too since it's a little milder than the other stuff and not going to fry these guys.

As far as the bugs go, I'm seeing them jumping/flying around from time to time....usually when I'm spraying or watering. I put some potatoes on the soil last night for about 5 hours and nothing showed up. I bought some neem oil so I'll spray and kill the adults and keep watching for larva. When I flushed these guys could i have mixed up the soil enough to bring the larva down to the lower parts of the pot and that's why I'm not getting them on the taters? Would it be best to treat the soil anyhow as a precaution?

I'd like to hear any constructive comments anyone wishes to share.

Thanks!

LOL...I'm not giving them shit right now....too paranoid! I though because the light feeding seems to help them I might try a little foliar spray with the fish ferts - good or bad idea?

Terrible idea....they are seedlings
No offense but that's what I was told about the supposed over feeding i was doing but if i stuck with that route and just did the flush they'd most likely be dead.

What are you basing this on? This is what i've read on the subject...

From theweedblog.com:
Clones, young plants, seedlings, and every marijuana plant in vegetative state will experience extreme benefits with foliar feeding. Because clones aren’t rooted, they require foliar feeding as a means to develop roots and avoid yellow discoloration (a frequent problem for cloners).

From strainhunters.com

Correcting plant deficiency problems
So then spraying is also useful in correcting plant deficiency problems, because of the very rapid absorption of plant nutrients through the leaves. Foliar spraying applications of fertilizer will provide almost instantaneous results. The best time to foliar spray is early in the morning for outdoor growers, and when the lights come on for indoor growers. This is the period when the stomatas are open. However, if the temperature is 80 degrees or above, the spray will have less of a effect, as a lot of the stomatas are closed. Foliar feeding is extremely beneficial to clones, seedlings, young plants, and all plants while in the vegetative stage

just a few....

Mulehunter, you lost me here bro! can you clarify?
Raise your ppms by 100 every week.
When you feed your plants feed let dry feed let dry then give them plain ro phd water then let dry out then repeat the prosses until you reach 800 or 900 ppms

I am basing this on experience
Seedlings should never EVER be in lockout and a seedling should never need to be flushed. Their root systems can't handle all that water. Seedlings should not be experiencing nutrient deficiencies either as they don't require feeding. The cotyledon leaves provide them with everything they need.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea to mist your seedlings, I'm just saying its a terrible idea to foliar feed them with fish ferts :)

Also, the reason your seedlings look so small is because you have stunted their growth by feeding them too soon...

I agree with MD914. As I said earlier in this thread, I dont really feed till I have three or four solid nodes or levels of growth. Once I have those sets of leaves I will begin my feeding - until then, between most quality potting soils and your plants built in starter nutrients, you dont need a thing.

Does that mean you cant feed? No, im sure theres some wiggle room to min/max the nutes your plant is getting. Is it worth burning and stressing the everliving shit out of your few day old seedling? Not in my book.

Hope this helps.

I get it but I don't have a few day old plants here. They're about 4 weeks old. I'm not arguing I'm just concerned that if they're on the mend since the last little bit of nutes, it might help with the "come back" to give a little more N. I was under the impression that the fish ferts won't burn anyhow so I just thought a mild mix spritz would give them that without disturbing the roots. I don't mean to question you guys but there are so many different opinions and they can't all be right. I'm not willing to waste 4 weeks I've spent on these guys without a bit of a fight so that's why I'm trying to double and triple check things. This is a good case of that. I've seen multiple published pieces on growing weed that say its fine and even good for seedlings but then here it's not. Just confusing sometimes.

Your main problem is the shitty soil. Next time buy something that is approved by seasoned growers... like fox farms. Its a great soil for noobs.
