Night Terror's from Smoking

Hey guys I have a good buddy that works in a fairly stressful environment, sees stuff that most only see on TV. When we were young we both loved to smoke and drink, now I can only smoke, vape due to gluten and digestive issues and he went the other way due to night terrors he would get from smoking cannabis. Now after 15 years he's trying it again and he smoked and he felt great, no terror, stone was great, his lady notice he was calmer for the week. Then tried something else and the stone was great, I ask if their was paranoia or anxiety and he said no, I was thinking maybe a little thc overdose. Said the bud was leafier than the first, but the night terrors came back with this stuff. He would love to keep using cannabis, just calms him, keeps him focused but the damn night terrors are keeping him away, these terrors used to involve lifting a solid wood 4 drawer dresser and tossing it around the room, not wanting to go back to those days, and since he has quit for all these years the terrors haven't been around, only the cannabis seemes to have triggered it. What can I do for the guy?

Wish I knew, he doesn't have a clue, just what he found BM. He will start asking more questions.

Not being flushed? to much chemical in the plant? Sativa/Indica

Thanks Sunni, I let him know about the bed time.

Without knowing what he's smoking I would put money on sativa and he should smoke indica instead

But it could go both ways

Ultimately he's going to have to find a reputable source of medication he can trust and know strain info rather than buying from dealers who have no information or growing knowledge

As for his night terrors I would put money on them happening when he's sober at all he just doesn't remember them or doesn't think to recall them as often as when he does smoke
He should probably seek some medical help like counselling to see what triggers he has and what coping mechanisms he can use
Meditation might also be helpful along with exercise and proper diet

as amazing as marijuana is you as a person must do and use other things with marijuana to make your system work as a whole

Absoulty Sunni, the Chinese doctor was initially the one that said it was the cannabis way back when. He is an extremely healthy guy, he has been learning about his gut and eating whole foods for the past couple of years and is a daily Yogi. He wants to get off the beers and what it is doing to his system. He has also spoken to shrinks about them, he and the chinese doctor were and he is still quite convinced that it was the cannabis. Hey Im all for it too, not every strain works for everyone,

Im thinking the same with the sativa, said it was outdoor. Hint maybe, Im fairly new to caring for myself.

As for meditation and diet I'm on the elimination / hypoallergenic diet right now week 5, no dairy, beef, pork, citrus, bananas, sugar, gluten, nightshade veggies, and the list goes on. Along with billions of probiotics a day. I couldn't take what the GP said anymore and hit up the naturalpath, fixing the gut first and find out what I can and can't eat, I get super hangovers, even with two beer. I feel great, heads clear, pains minimal/gone in hands and knees and more. But the back pain still persists. Strain hunting for that.

I just got tired of feeling like crap all the time, wondering one day why and the hell am I smoking so much cannabis, to treat the symptoms. I need to find the cause and I think I might have found it.

I might be able to enjoy the physo active effects of cannabis again soon, when I can take break from it.

Thanks for the replys Sunni

I get same shit man, smoking pretty much stopped me dreaming good and bad and sleep paralysis altogether though, I'd just pass out then next thing I knew i was waking up in the morning.

I smoked heavy as fuck at night for a long time but Iv been having a break from weed lately and apart from the first couple of weeks it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be when I wouldn't have a smoke, I don't sleep no where near as much but I dunno if smoking just got me out of the bad dream habit or what, I still wake up all fucked up like once every week or 2, but not leaping out of the bed freaking out like I used to though.

I know that doesn't really help I'm pretty sure weed suppresses most peoples dreams, if it doesn't work for him I'm sure there's other shit out there that dues, I'd say try asking google for dream suppressants

I am a vivid dreamer. when I was a child I was tormented by dreams so real I'd wake up terrified, sweating, out of breath. Dad asked me what was wrong. I ( was 7 ) said a stone monster was chasing me.....I can't get away. Every night it would seek me out. Dad asked why I was running. ....Its chasing me.......It can't chase you if you don't run. Have you tried talking to it? NO!......Well tonight stop and talk to it. See what happens. That night was full of terror and running............. dads words came to me. I took a big breath, stopped turned around. faced it and said hi. Long story short.....it was not a monster....just different looking than humans. We became friends and when he came to my dreams he protected me. I have spent years working on my dreams. So many awesome dream worlds. I leave smoke in boxes and drawers so when I come back to that world I have it.....lol. When your brain makes the connection (this is a dream) you can literally do as you please....no worries or earthly restraints.

Night terrors or mares can can be turned around. It's not easy but can be done with or without drugs. I do not find that pot interferes with my vivid dreaming. Sativa is not recommended before bedtime though....IMO. As said above he needs to know what he is smoking and maybe lean toward an Indica.

I have noticed that when medicating you have to be very careful of what kind of weed ur smoking, the high thc might give u the night terrors or the Sativa dominant will also do it. Have ur friend try a mellow strain and experiment with all the indicas before u decide what strains work better for your friend. Wish ur friend had a knowledgeable dispensary rather than the black market.

my dreams have always been fucked, i used to always have dreams where id wake up in my bed in my dream thinking i was awake then all of a sudden id get dragged out of my bed and flung / dragged through the air and out the front door or a window screaming, then id wake up for real freaking out, doesn't sound scary but it would always have that nightmare vibe to it.

i have alot of dreams about getting fucked by dinosaurs, like they beat me off with there tails and shit like that lol, i dont mind them though they dont feel nightmarish at all just real fuckin weird.

sometimes i think if i had the time and could be fucked i should make a dream journal to keep track of all the strange shit i dream about, it would be the most messed up read imaginable

One of my nightmares took years to take over. It,s packing. I have tons of stuff that has to be packed and moved in a couple hours and no one will help. One night I was finally able to say.......screw this and walk away.

Doesn't sound like an awful thing but it was. Anything can be a nightmare....like you say it is the feel. As for sex in dreams it has been with people and I love it. It feels real. Give your dino a pat for me. ;)

I should point out to you folks that are in this post that you are comparing night terrors to dreams. This is incorrect.

Night terrors happen when you fall asleep but you do not reach REM sleep. It's a slow wave sleep. The part about this is while you can dream, the body has not completely shut down where the paralytic effect that sleep induces to keep bodily harm from happening is not in effect. This description does not sound like night terrors. Nightmares
Occur during REM sleep but night terrors happen before that. This also is more common in children and it's a very low percentage too. The idea of throwing a solid wood dresser is beyond me. Possession? Most night terrors do not involve exactly violent actions like picking something up and throwing it. It has been noted that running in sleep, trying to hit or push, spinning around has also been known to happen but full on pick up a dresser? The most common part of night terror? Screaming. If that doesn't bone-chill an unsuspecting parent out of their sleep....
It is a precursor to sleepwalking and that's just an entirely different story here.
Some of the original posters story just doesn't add up on a scale here for night terrors. They are frightening but can be short lived. Talk to a doctor because these posts need some clinical clarification as such.

I do not know why people try to scare people off cannabis. Just like all medications you need to know your tolerance and you need to not go past that. If you have bad reactions to cannabis don't use it. It's kinda like I can drink hella hard liquor with no adverse affects get a mild buzz. Now if I drink beer 2 and I am really tipsy. If you haven't smoked to sit and try to finfish a joint or a full bowl would be ridiculous because you would not have the tolerance.

How much exactly does he smoke before bed? Try smoking much less. A lot of people roll a joint and then smoke it all due to not wanting to waste any. Invest in a nice bong or pipe from a store and that way you can just have a tiny smoke before bed, just a little bong hit, instead of a whole joint!
