Next Generation Seeds Not Germinating

UPDATE: So last night I decided to dig up the seeds to maybe try to germinate them another way and I found something strange/interesting. 3 of the seeds had not even cracked or begun to germinate but I was happy to find that the other 7 cracked and began to root. The strange thing is that they were all growing upside down. I found the root stem growing up towards the surface and seed/top pushing downward.....I thought this to be fairly odd since I planted every seed the exact same way and only the dynamites failed to grow properly.... so I carefully removed and re-planted the seedlings in the proper root down / seed up position and covered them up again with a little surface soil. Today 3 of them have begun to break the surface like normal and I'm hoping the other 4 will follow suit shortly. As for the 3 that failed to germinate at all I'm going to try to germ them in VERY wet soil one more time and if that fails I guess maybe ill soak them in water for a day or try the paper towel method. I'm glad that these Dynamites were not a "bad batch" as I had previously believed I think they are just extremely hard to germinate. I had to literally drench the soil to get em started....way more than I would normally do to germinate my seeds.
I was going to say, man it is user error. I've never had a bean not germinate from next generation. 20 grape gods and 10 grape skunks, all germinated. Try not just throwing your seeds in the dirt next you start telling people that seed breeders are iffy. Your lucky the others came up with that germination process.

My current run of Next Gen "Dynamite" germination rate was 19 of 24 popped. One turned into a runt and was killed off. Not as good as in the past, but good enough for me. The Grape God were very standarized, very similar in all ways. With the Dynamites, that's not the case. They grew much taller then expected, with a few of them REALLY tall. But the quality appears to be superb. I already bought 30 Grape God seeds for my next grow- I'm very happy with N.G. stuff or I wouldn't keep ordering them.

You're satisfied now, wait until you get a male--not hermie--in a pack of feminized. If you don't grow feminized that takes care of that problem; but after my latest experience with them, I'm washing my hands of them. They are thieves and without a doubt have poor breeding practices. As I said I've NEVER had so much as a single male flower on a feminized plant--untill now with Next Generation's Dynamite.

Looking around the various forums, you can find a lot of complaints about Next Generation. "You pays your money, you takes your chances". Grow enough of their gear and you'll eventually run out of luck.

Guy you've already posted this many times. Not all seeds are going to be top notch. I got a feminized Power Plant from dutch passion that went full male flowers, who cares, thats the game; but I'm not out there hating on Dutch Passion over a five pack of beans. Now if you bought a hundred seeds and this happened to all of them, I would understand. Buying illegal products is a crap shoot. Live and learn.

Sorry, I'm not buying it. I read lots of great things about their stuff. My Grape God last time turned out wonderful. As the above poster mentioned, shit happens sometimes. I've had loads of hermies (and even a few full-on males) from numerous company's including Dutch Passion, Mr. Nice, Reeferman, and others..........Seeds can get mixed up, random pollen floats around and accidently finds a branch or two, etc. Just don't buy N.G. stuff anymore so there's more of it for me!

1 out of 5 is good in my book especially if they all germed ,warning: do not use yard soil to germ seeds.

Thought I'd report back in and tell everyone 29 out of 30 "Grape God" popped within 3 days. I'm still hoping the last one comes up too, but popped 5 extra just in case.

People who report poor sprouting by Next Generation need to review their process.......I've had nothing but excellent success with them.

I'm able to successfully germinate even the oldest seeds stored haphazaradly - I just got slightly over 80% germ rate for some 20+ year old Oaxacan seeds that someone had stored down in their basement in a paper bag all those years.

But NOTHING, and I mean nothing is going to get a hollow, pithy seed to germinate. I've been growing this plant from seed for well over 30 years. I am able to bring even the oldest and most abused seeds to life. But never have I successfully germinated any hollow, pithy, gutless seeds. No innards, no life. And those are the kinds of seeds I got in the last 3 orders of NG gear. Is it Next Generation? or the Seedbank? sending these dead seeds. I tend to think Next Generation packages up their own seeds, for crikey sake.

I will say... regardless of the trouble I've been having getting viable seeds of these cultivars

I do love NG's Timewarp and Diablo. Great cannabis varieties those are, and indispensable in my outdoor garden. I've found a couple other breeders who've done F2s of those, and also some crosses. Would rather go that route at this point than pay for Next Generation to ream me. Three reamings is enough.

sorry to burst your bubble, but throwing them in the dirt is the BEST way to do it. Your not helping your chances at all doing it in tissue inside a few plates. It doesn't work like that in nature. If they are placed properly in a little hole in the pot ,kept moist and warm, the root and shoot know what way to go. Gravitropism / phototropism.

Handling the seeds with taproot exposed is just an unneeded risk. But hey everyone else does it so that makes it right..

Just thinking op, you maybe had them too deep.. just a theory... I use a pencil as a guide and it never fails, just make a hole the depth of the V of the pencil and put the seed in and cover it lightly and spray some water, keep nice and warm and they just about always come up. Except this one time I used something else to make the hole and I had a seed struggling to come up.. it was too deep.

I agree completely.

I only use paper towels if I want to check the viability of a large quantity of older seeds.
I scuff seeds that I think have poor viability prospects (emery board or light sandpaper).

I make a hole apx 1/4 inch deep in medium, place the seed horizontally in the hole...gently water. Simple.
About two to five days later they break thru the soil. ( I use Pro Mix ).

Yup out in the open...I like to start them in 16 to 20 oz styrofoam cups...right under the lights...If they have not broken thru the surface after a few days, I simply mist or gently water the soil...(only to moisten the top a little bit.)

Well, there's lots of great grows with their beans..........but you have to understand things happen and sometimes beans get accidentally mixed in. I've also had full out males from female seeds by other reliable breeders, but not from Next Generation. Here's my current Grape God grow, 24 plants from 24 seeds. Not a male in site....... I actually find their strains bit more reliable then others......

Kinda sounds like this Jay dude at next gen is a dick and a shisty liar from what Im reading. I never had issues with Tude over last 12 or so years dealing with them.

Next generation must be having problems. I just started two packs of island sweet skunk and 0% germination. My sub cool gear had 100% germ. They won't return emails and I have heard of other problems recently. Big disappointment.

I have to say that I have had this problem with their Bonkers strain which is the only one I have tried. My experience with it has been good and bad. The good is that the strain is excellent. I have been growing in the upper NE near Canada for a few years now and I have tried many different "early" strains trying to find ones that finish mid September. I am in the mountains growing personal. Most of the strains finished no earlier than beginning of October and most of them middle. Bonkers is not only the only one that finished EXACTLY mid September but also had a good yield and very good quality. Handles wet, snails and slugs stay away from it, mold never been an issue, very tough and hardy. So the strain itself is excellent.

That being said I have tried it three different years. All other seeds I average well over 90+% germination including freebees that come as part of an order. I have never had better than 15% with Bonkers in any of the three years running. Male female of germinated ones is fine but most do not crack. I was thinking maybe it was because it was the genetics, with auto mixed in kind of like mules being sterile. I know it isn't my methods or I would have such good success with other seeds, some of which I had stored for years because they were not needed. Been doing this for decades.

So in conclusion, what I generally do is absorb the losses by buying more seeds and taking what I can get. The strain is definitely worth it because the pro's outweigh the con's compared to other strains in my environment. I have just learned to accept the higher price I pay to get them.
