I am looking into composting also. Obviously I'll try a few soils and try something new for each grow but want to ensure my plants are thriving

If you look around locally, alot of farms/florist have compost premade that they'll sell to you.

Mix that hot compost up with some vercimulitr or coco, and youre good to go

Long 4-post thread.

I have never grown anything before, but I'm sick of all the shitty weed out there that local dealers have so I'm taking matters into my own hands.

Here is my setup so far. This being my first post on these forums (after only just briefly checking out what this site has to offer, and knowing nothing whatsoever about marijuana cultivation) I may as well give a quick intro as well.

I'm 23 y/o from Australia, and have purchased what I believe to be the bulk of what i'm going to need.. But no doubt I've fucked up somewhere along the line or have overlooked something, so I'll lay my cards on the table and see if any of you more experienced ladies & gentlemen out there can offer some insight, provide links to useful threads and hold my hand through this as I try something new.

First, here are the seeds. Picked them up from Attitude Seeds UK (discrete shipping, good selection!)

Seeds:

(All the $0 ones were free because I purchased a certain amount of seeds and was eligible from some freebies :) )

So i'm pretty happy with those. Excited to try the Indica dominant hybrids because I am a massive fan of Mary Jane forcing me to kick back and relax ;) No pain - no worries! I love my Sativas too dont get me wrong but I want to grow some delicious indicas for their relaxing effects.

That Trinity Kush had no stretch, purple buds, and grew as a single central cola. Good stuff. Needs a good veg.

Uploaded an image. I saw this at a normal supermarket. Haven't checked the local hydro store yet. Is this appropriate as a soil additive ?

Nice set up man. They are giving you some good advice on where to look for info. As mentioned, you really don't have to PH when growing in soil. I would highly recommend adding some lime to your mix to help with the buffering of it and to add a little cal/mag at the same time. You fert in the above post probably wouldn't be a bad additive either but I'm not sure because I don't use it. The 1 thing I would suggest at first is to have a weaker soil your first grow and add what you need a little at a time. If you make your soil to hot 1 way or another without any grow experience what so ever, it will be real hard to make adjustments or even get advice for adjustments. The 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 mixture prev. mentioned was on point, if you want add a hand full or so of what you have above^^^and a hand full of lime and your good to go. If you want to save on nutes you can use your left over compost to make tea by just putting it in a bucket with water and stirring it often or putting an airstone in it. This will save you lots of money during the veg stage since most normal compost are high in N. I do this for my girls outside by putting bags into 30 gallon garbage cans and collecting rain water.

That's a great way to make nutrients juice! Good thinking. I'm really going to enjoy this .
Heading to hydro store tomorrow for some coco or proper soil!

How do I go about germination?
get a solo cup fill it with soil, coco, perlite etc. water the soil. plant the seed about 1/2 inch deep. simply wait 4-5 days and it should sprout. works 100% if you don't have fungus gnats larvae feasting on you seedling. Try not to drench the soil but make sure it is thoroughly moist with some air in it before planting.

And you don't need to ditch the MH. I just finished an entire grow with MH just to see and it was excellent. Don't sell the Metal Halides short...they work great too.

Because I have both types of bulbs i'll be using the one which is best suited to it's particular stage of development. I think both are important here :)

That's what I would do too. One thing you might consider is to use the MH during the final 10 days or so too for additional resin. I don't have evidence however my recent grow compared to previous grows would indicate that the MH produces more resinous buds. Just my 2 cents and as I said, I do not have a side by side proper experiment...just my observation.

That sounds cool. I might try that. May as well try and utilize any usefulness out of these bulbs. They kept arriving broken and it's been frustrating getting them all in one piece. I'd use both at once if I had two ballasts.

Rap the seeds in a damp paper towel (enough to get the seeds wet). Separate them out so tap roots dont get tangled. place towel in a freezer bag and breathe a little CO2 into it. Seeds should pop in 2 days or so.
