So I'm super new to this and I'm having some doubts. .. first, what's the water level tube for? I know it shows the water level but how would I use it? am I supposed to use it for something in particular?

chopNcrop, the external tube shows the water level like you said but could also be used for draining the water from the bucket.

sounds alot like me 2-3 years ago
well the tube like mike said is for waterlevel and draining the bucket the water level should be about 1 inch below the netbucket

Even when starting from seed?? Or should the bubbles hit the coco to reach the roots? How would you suggest I do going from seed? Do I grow in a cup with coco until it's nice and established, then transplant?

well im gone give my personal advise i never did coco or soil so i dont know anything about that i have grown hydro from my first grow till today what i do i germ the seeds first than i use jiffypellets put the seeds in and put 2 inch of hydroton pebbels in the netpot and put the jiffyplug with seed on top and than fill the rest of the netpot with hydro pebbels till the top of the jiffyplug
and than the first 2-3 days i hand feed them like 2-3 times a day i just mist spray the jiffy plug till its nice & wet after the 2-3 days the roots are maybe not out of the netpot but from the bubbles that your airstone create it will moist the hydro pebbels and your roots will take water from there and eventualy go into the reservoir below its all patience but thats how i do it

hope it helps

sorry for my not to good english its my 4e language

nice you do know that HPS is for flowering right it could be used for veg but not the ideal bulb for it

yes i know... i just created a threat asking if i could use an MH bulb on my ballast. i dont know if you can help me with this??? i have a Yield Lab 400W digital dimmable electronic ballast, its 110v-240v. is this enough info to determine an answer?

im having a scrog dwc grow going at the moment 6 plant Dr.Krippling Incredible bulk
have 1 HPS 600w in the tent and 1 MH 600w some kinda dual spectrum trying to check what the outcome will be

Dual spectrum! That's brilliant! I'd love to know how that ends up... was really into spectrums and different color led lamps and shit about a year ago but I don't know I just stopped caring for it... I got great results using blue all the way through. I know what you're thinking but I actually got reeeally tight compressed nugs Compared to the same strain in a differect room grown under normal spectrum... I never did it again tho hahaha... I like the fluffy stuff.

yeah man its all personal preference
i also wanne try adding a UVB lamp in the grow tent my flowering light cycle i also have 13/11 i find i get better results with that yield wise

Your going to have bad PH swings using coco with hydro.

No biological media for DWC

Use vermiculite
Pearlite
Engineered polyethylene
Or expanded clay

Some companies make coco specific nutes that help counteract the issues with coco. From what I've read, if you prewash and soak the coco in a ph set water it helps immensely. I've been thinking about trying some coco and read into it..Honestly, i think I'd run 100% perlite before coco. Expanded clay really seems to be the best..it's cheap and you can reuse it. Just buy quality pellets..i have some cheap ones that came with a dwc kit and they suck compared to the Hydroton branded ones. the cheap ones break and crumble..my res always has grit and clay in it turning it brownish red, which sucked..I though i had rot root..nope..clay dust..

Hydroton (expanded clay) retains slightly more fluid than pearlite and that helps me use slightly smaller net pot filled media but still retain the minimum safety buffer from "drought" conditions if the power goes out.

Tho in DWC running out of water isn't the biggest threat to rapid plant death. Running out of dissolved oxygen is.

To give myself a safety net against air pump failure i plug my air pump into a battery backup made for a PC it will run for about half an hour in the event of a power outage. Also bigger reservoirs lower temperature helps.

If an extreme case of 12 hours or greater power or pump failure I would recommend dumping the full nutrient solution completely and leaving bare roots exposed to air rather than leaving them in oxogen depleted water.

Then minimally top water through the pot every 4 hours.
