New Piece.jpg My new baby is one her way! Can't wait, the guy who made it put a male joint on it by accident, should have been a female 14mm. But to make up for it he is making me a super sick female slide for it, and sending it out tomorrow free of charge. Can't wait for her, hopefully the slide won't be too far behind it. It got shipped out yesterday. It has a dome type perc on the top and stemline on the bottom, and it's about 12" tall. Will update with a video once I have it!
Tell me what you guys think!

Also, forgot to edit but now it is too late I guess, what I called a dome perc is actually a splash guard, I didn't realize it at first.

Figured I'd say, this tube was pulled by hand, not on a lathe. Is that usual or unusual? I'm not really sure of the difference to be honest.
I'm going to order another custom piece from him when he has a lathe in a month. Something a lot bigger.

A lot of people confuse glass blowers with the ability to turn stuff on a lathe.

Lampworking -- Torch on a bench. Use your hands. In Lampworking, we CAN make tubes. But, your holding it with your hand. How heavy can you hold? For me, the biggest I've ever made is about one foot tall. But, others can do really nice tubes on a bench. Usually, if its a tube made on a bench torch its going to be an artsy small one. Very rarely would someone crank out clear tubes on a bench torch, because for the money it isnt worth it.

Latheworking -- Torch on a lathe or hand torch, lathe turns tubes/rods for you. It sounds like it'd be easier, it isnt, its different. But, since the lathe spins the glass for you, your arms will hurt much less, your walls will be a lot straighter, and usually a much larger or heavier piece.

Glassblowing -- Generally soft glass making vases, wine glasses, sculptures, other non pipe stuff. Soda Lime Soft Glass. Since they pull from a furnace of hot glass, that's why its glass blowing not lampworking. :)

If he's getting a lathe in a month, I'd wait four months before you bought *anything* from him. :) There's a bit of a learning curve to them........

Thanks for all the info Kitty! I know glassblowing is completely different than lathe working, I almost think of it as the difference between Heady and Scientific glass, not the same thing but similar. I didn't even think it might be his first time on a lathe, i'll have to see what he spits out before I order something custom from him off the lathe. Out of curiosity, is the Glass lathe dangerous like the Metal lathe you worked on when you started with Titanium stuff? Just wondering, I've seen some pictures of what a metal working lathe can do to a person 0_0

A metal lathe is capable of 2000rpm speeds. A glass lathe is nowhere near that, I (think) its around 50-150rpm. Of course, its a much larger lathe, they are all at least as large as a desk. Around $10k used, $18-$30k new++++. It would be harder to hurt yourself, but still possible. I dont think I've heard of any glassblowing lathe accidents so far.........

A glass lathe CAN be very dangerous, even at the much lower speed.
We have had to improve our safety in order to be approved by the Chinese labour department.

Possibly looking to sell this piece to get some money for a much more expensive piece. I've absolutely loved this piece since the day I got it, but I'm looking at getting something a bit bigger for my collection. This piece has been admired so to speak but is completely spotless now. I will provide some updated pics in the next few days. Not exactly sure what I want out of this piece, i'll let the buyer offer. It's been used less than a hand full of admiring sessions in the last month, and cleaned to spotless after each session.

Again, it's a Stemless 12" Oiler with a 14mm male joint. The walls of the bottom are 5mm and the top are 4mm. It has a stemline perc with 6 slits and bubbles great! It also has a splash guard on the top tube.
For pictures, look at the threads 1st page, and for more information PM me!

Would also be up for a trade or partial trade!

If he is making that by hand the lathe will make it easier. It gives you both hands to work and makes the piece spin perfectly even.
That's a dope female slide. I've just started playing with my lathe. It's awesome.

Yeah I'm actually thinking about buying another custom from the same guy, it's pretty easy to get good deals when you're a return customer and I love his work.
You planning on making tubes Dank?

Yeah. I've made a few already. I'm working on an evenflow perc design right now. That person does nice work. Got a name?

Haha yeah, not sure why i've never mentioned who made it, he's Ouroboro on Artfire, He blows out of Cali.

And keep your thread updated on your tubes! Whether for sale or not, I definitely want to see what your coming up with.

I will try. It's all r&d right now. The domes I just made match the rigs I just made...and I got some more bad ass ones in the kiln. They only get better. The rigs I've been making at my shop for my store front. I should put all my stock on here. I've been busy as Hell lately. Filling a complete store with only my glass is a lot of work. 100 spoons don't look like much on shelves
