Now, I'm probably just an ignorant American, but I thought Canada either doesn't prohibit or is otherwise not enforcing cannabis laws up there? I heard one time (don't remember where or how credible the source was) that you guys even have medical cocaine up there. And furthermore, if methamphetamine is a schedule II narcotic in the US (prescribed as a hydrochloride salt under the brand name Desoxyn), why the hell are we harder on marijuana than Canada?

Victoria makes plans to regulate its medical pot shops with $5,000 licensing fee

VICTORIA – The City of Victoria has laid out some ground rules as it moves to regulate medical-marijuana businesses and included is a licensing fee that is a fraction of the Vancouver charge.

The city is asking for public input on more than a dozen proposed regulations, including a fee ranging from $4,000 to $5,000, that no one under the age of 19 be on the premises, that health-warnings signs be posted and that there be no consumption of the product in the store.

Vancouver is further ahead in its regulation process and plans to charge $30,000 for a business licence.

There are about 30 medical-marijuana-related businesses in Victoria currently and 26 of those are storefront retailers.

The city says the purpose of its regulations is to reduce the impact on the community, while letting clients maintain access to medical marijuana.

An open house and town-hall meeting will be held on the issue Feb. 22.

In any case, Methamphetamine truly is medicinally legal here, with a prescription. It just doesn't make sense that marijuana's illegal here and meth's totally ok, regarding prescription medicine.

I can tell you're not a member of military intelligence. None of us really give a fuck why the US has "meth" or whatever your going on about scheduled as less of a threat then marijuana. Maybe that's a topic to discuss with other Americans who may or may not give a fuck about that. Ps Mexico has wmd. Go invade there next.

We have prescription heroin. There are actually small clinics our government run and there called "safe injection sites"

Canada is a fantastic country....we give teen moms thousands of dollars a month for getting pregnant everytime they lift there legs and then sit on there ass until the kids 18.. its actually turned into a good career for some. If your foreign and come to Canada congrats you now earn more then a pensioner with 50+ years of contribution. We pay 25-30% tax before it touches our bank account and after that 13% on everything. We supply fuel to other countries and they sell it for cheaper, figure that one out. Want to buy a home? better be sitting on 50-100k in the bank. You can be on the east in Toronto and pay 600,000$ - 1,000,000$ for a 1000sqft fixer upper or out west vancouver you can pay 1,200,000$ and get a trailer with a sliding door, ofcourse theres cheaper but these are the prices where most the population resides. Health care you say? take a seat you got 6-7 hours of wait time. Now you know more then you did before reading this :)

That's pretty insane. We have clinics, and typically, methadone or suboxone/subutex/buprenorphine, and I think possibly fentanyl? are used to titrate down. Heroin's 100% schedule 1 here. I think prohibition is what puts people on either side of our borders at risk, through means of criminalization and alienation of the addict. I've lost a lot of friends the past 3-4 years to ODs, and I ended up having a brief experience (3, to be exact) when I was at my worst due to PTSD. The ones who died were all good enough people that they didn't deserve death. In fact, most of the ones I'd keep at arms length are still alive. Hopefully we'll see an end to the condemnation soon, on both our sides of the "fence."
