Got an email from MMCOnline today. They outline six new bills that have apparently passed in Maine. I found the one about selling excess to a dispensary interesting. About time for that one.

Six new medical marijuana bills have become law this summer.

MMCM worked with Representative Paul Gilbert of Jay to pass LD 1404, An Act To Ensure the Integrity of Maine’s Medical Marijuana Program .
The new law allows caregivers to have one employee.
It also allows caregivers to donate excess marijuana to patients.
This law goes into effect immediately.

The DHHS and Dispensary operators succeeded in passing LD1531, An Act To Maintain Access to Safe Medical Marijuana , sponsored by Senator Tom Saviello.
The new law limits dispensaries and caregivers to using “minimum risk” pesticides that are exempt from federal regulation under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act, Section 25(b). The full list is at www.mmcmonline.org.
This bill goes into effect immediately.

MMCM worked with Representatives Elizabeth Dickerson and Mark Dion to pass LD 1062, An Act To Add Conditions That Qualify for Medical Marijuana Use .
Check out the Free Press article on the bill, “Local Combat Veteran Believes Medicinal Marijuana Can Help Treat PTSD."
The bill will add PTSD, inflammatory bowel disease, dyskinetic and spastic movement disorders, and other diseases causing severe and persistent muscle spasms to those for which a doctor is allowed to recommend medical use of marijuana. The law goes into effect on September 26, 2013.

LD 1462, An Act To Clarify and Correct Provisions of the Maine Medical Use of Marijuana Act , will allow maintenance workers in a grow room, and remove the requirement that caregivers tag plants with a patient's name (though it will require some numerical identification). The law goes into effect on September 27, 2013.

LD 480, An Act To Establish Fees under the Maine Medical Use of Marijuana Act, sponsored by Representative Deb Sanderson, will place limits on the fees the DHHS can charge caregivers and dispensaries. The law goes into effect October 3, 2013.

LD1423, An Act To Amend the Medical Marijuana Law Regarding Excess Harvested Marijuana, sponsored by Representative Craig Hickman, will allow registered caregivers to sell up to 2 pounds of marijuana a year to dispensaries. The law goes into effect October 3, 2013.

Thanks to everyone who contacted their legislators and gave testimony on these bills. It's only through your active support and involvement that we can continue to make sure the laws work for Maine patients and caregivers.

If nothing else, it bodes well for caregivers down the road when they legalize and decide to license selected growers.

I meant before I'd sell my good meds to one of those crackpot disps, I'd just take care of more patients....

That one confused me. I thought that was always the case, you can donate to a patient.

Thanks glad to be hear hoping to learn more and connect with this community in the New England area considering moving to maine to be a caregiver just wondering if there is a demand for good caregivers in maine. Here in nj where I'm from there is no way for me to get involved and help people out that need it but trying to make a decision over the next year😄

yipee 2lbs a year....I"ll find a couple patients and donate to them instead......
Sell or donate? That isn't a hard choice for me.

Money talks. I'll be selling to dispensaries.

Caregivers being able to have an employee is a big change. Now I can rent grow space to a caregiver, and they can hire me to grow weed for them.

Caregivers can drop patients at any time, without notice. We already have the ability to take of as many patients are possible within our plant restrictions.

evidently that was taken out in the last round of new rules...lol
Before the 2011 rules, caregivers could donate to any legal possessor. After the 2011 rules, patients could only donate to patients and caregivers could only donate to caregivers. A caregiver who is also a patient could donate to any legal possessor. Now we are back to the 2011 rules.
