NEW GROW ROOM w/PICTURES and QUESTIONS

So I just moved into a new place and the first thing I did was set up my grow room/big closet. I bought a metal shelving unit with fiber-board shelves for easy cutting to make way for wires, tubes, etc. I am going to be running an ebb+flow system and plan on having between 4-6 plants flowering in there at a time. Your probably wondering what the fuck an aero garden is doing in the flood table right? Yea I dont really know either i just put it there to give my herbs some extra light until my Feminized Blue Cheese seeds come in. I have some questions as well...what would you guys suggest the walls be made of? Also the temperature in the flood table is running right around 81-82. Is that too hot? If so what do you suggest I do to bring cool air in or hot air out of my system? Thank you and sorry for the rough setup, all the other stuff is in the other room and I didnt feel like setting it up right now.

What do you guys think I could do with the other side of the closet?

Thanks man. I still have to figure out what Im going to make the walls out of so that I can make a carbon filter to eliminate some of the cheesy smell thats going to be coming from my blue cheese girls.

I'm tired of buying so also jumping into the growing deal, the setup I have so far gone with is very similar except the container is closed up. Never thought of the metal shelving with pressboard. (**I attached a few notes of mine at the bottom)

Few ideas if cash is available (thats my problem). The temp you have is perfect just make sure you stay out of the 90's and low 70's. One idea is a way to regulate intake and exhaust to regulate temps, but a few questions. Was that door closed when the temp was taken for say a 12 hour test? also any vents in the closet or next room? Now for the walls a cheap way is aluminum foil, but be sure the plants can handle it or they could be overwhelmed (say atleast 8-10 inches tall? anyone with a bit more experience would know more on it, just a guess). Also maybe putting a door in the front to make sure all the light gets to the plants. Lastly, I worry about the smell more than others so maybe a carbon air filter, or a 2nd odor control device (ether oil?) in the room attached. Good thing you can wait on the odor stuff or turning it on until the flowering stage or so. Also maybe a cheap fan to keep air circulating. Otherwise looks good to go. Of course some of these are suggestion and not needful things.

For the extra space grab a cloning box so you'll be prepared for the next grow. Or a take that aerogarden and grow something else. No ideas otherwise.

Best of luck dude!

**setup is 18"x36"x72" made with a 2x2 wood frame, and then sealed with pressboard (stuff cheap cabinets are made of, runs about $25 for a 4x8 sheet at the hardware store). Nail/wood glue together. With this size a 400watt light (HPS & MH is max for this space). otherwise ventilation/odor control and a few other small things I'm still deciding on/purchasing.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Would you reccomend any of the diy carbon filters using the activated carbon you can get at wal-mart? Also that temp was taken with the door closed for about 5 hours with a fan on the system. I was planning on using the aerogarden for clones on the bottom shelf then moving them up into the "flowering chamber" so to speak. I was thinking of sealing the sides, back, and top with something solid like foam board and then using a tarp for the front for easy access. What do you think?

Yea that carbon would work fine, but need some way to force the air through. I'm still learning about filters so I don't know much or any idea? For sealing it, that should work fine. Hell you could probably zip tie the boards to the stand. You could also break it down quickly then. For the front you could either make it so you could flip it on top while working, or cutting it like the industrial stores delivery doors have. Its cut into slates about 1 foot wide. Something like this

I'll have to get back to you on the carbon filter. I'll be excited to see how this grow goes.

there's a thread on the DIY section of the forums with pics and detailed instructions on how to make your own with activated charcoal

basically buy a car air filter ( those cone ones ) stuff activated charcoal in there , stretch some panty hose over the open end and rubber band it , after that just put the elbow joint / tube that you're going to have your exhaust attached to , or you could try a different approach with ducting or something but yea it should work

edit: sorry but i forgot to post what i was going to post in the first place ( like the 3rd time it happens today )

why don't you just get some cardboard with mylar/material with similar reflective properties ( hell even aluminium foil if you can tape it to the cardboard without crunching it up much ) but yea i'd go with a car windshield reflector thing or flat white paint before resorting to that though just my .02 )

Thanks everyone. I will try to make a filter like you said with the car part. Also I think foam board might be the best thing for the walls because I can easily make it air-tight with tape, etc.

-I will keep this thread updated

very very nice - The wire/metal frame idea is an excellent choice because it will help the air circulate alot better, and will reflect light and hopefully not raise your temps over 90... you also may want to move all those clothes out of there - YOU may not be able to smell it on you but I guarentee that others will. Fresh skunk anyone? Again, good work and keep us posted.

Peace D.D.
