i agree,another month it will dry up but during rain i think it will be beneficial.ill skip the gravel in the bottom then.we're getting dumped on this weekend,think ill dig a hole tomorrow to see just how wet it is.

look around an see if any one is selling aged compost...all my raised beds are nothing but compost..my outdoor plants never looked so good...had some 14 footers last year...but it has to be aged compost..I get some from a horse farm..its aged 2 years..he gives me the test report when i go get some...its from Umass agro extension...i get for 15 a yard..well worth it..I do add to it also...but when i first got it a few years ago,,I got 20 yards..put right in my raised beds an planted..not one problem..did see fast growth...I did add some espoma fert to it to get it activated again..plus kelp meal..plants loved it...look on craigslist for any one selling it..much cheaper than dirt...bagged dirt is mostly peat..compost is gold to plants..feeds them,,unlike peat

Getting a bag of goodies in the middle of the hundred mile wilderness would be trail magic indeed. That is the longest stretch without easy resupply on the trail.

I was ready to go this April. Except for two not so small problems. A job and a wife. I'm only 56, so I can't stop working for a few years yet. Yet these old bones are getting older all the time. The wife wants me to section it, and that makes more sense. But I want to do in one summer. The most likely start date is April 1, 2023. If my boss would give me a six month leave of absence, I would go for it next year.

Hiking the trail is one reason I wanted to learn how to Spring crop. I could be finished for the year by mid March. I had also thought about getting my BIL to start seeds for me, and me run home long enough to plant about July. You have to summit Mt. Katahdin in the fall before it is iced in. {Like it is today} So I should be home in time to harvest.

There is a lot of guys on here from the NE. If just a few of you were to bring me some herbal trail magic, I would be too high to hike. They call hiking while smoking or looking for smoke Green Blazing. Since most of you guys are family men, I won't explain what Pink Blazing is.

thanks MaineODGB and thumper60... was looking for a mold resistant strain that finishes on the early side, and these seem to have those qualities. have a nice 1/2 acre secluded field that can't be seen from any angle once the tree foliage grows in.

What size boxes are those? What's an appropriate sized contained for a plant ... 15 gallon?

Slow start to my veg garden too, all my seedlings still in my grow box... rain and 40 degree nights set everything wayyy back.
