new cabinet I built, getting back at it again.

Hi,

Just read your thread. Good job on making the DIY COB. I am looking to enhance my grow cab when i really plant my fem seeds on my next run, probably build a small setup myself.

Luckily the strain (white cookies) I got is suppose to be short/bushy, which is perfect for my short cabinet space (about 32" of usable height).

Was the northern lights and pineapple chunk stretch manageable? it appears from the pics, that they didn't over stretch like your bag seeds. Are they genetically short?
Thanks man! Both were very manageable, I also flipped them much sooner... They could have easily veged for another 2 weeks. I feel like the pineapple chunk would have been great for topping, it was a very fast growing and bushy. I think they were both rated a medium growth height.

well I did a bunch of hauling 5 gal buckets around last night. Drained all the old water and mixed up a fresh batch with some dyna flush. I didnt realize how low that stuff makes the pH drop. Fresh out of the tap my pH is usually 7.2ish (50ppm). After adding the dyna flush and letting it settle in the water for about 15 minutes, pH dropped like a rock to around 4.8. Im not sure if that is normal for a flushing solution, but i took my time and pH'ed it back up to 6.0 before running it through the plants. I let this run through the system for the next few hours, i just flood and drained frequently, trying to increase the airflow thru the medium. Pumped all this out, and started over with fresh water and nutes, ppm gauge read 420 upon first testing... I took that as a sign and went to sleep.

im convinced my problem is related to root rot of some sort. both inlets tubes into the medium were lined with a pretty thick, black gunk. I installed some new tubes, and re-routed the tubing so it would drain better. Im adding some more air stones to mix, and i guess i need to up my frozen water bottle game. been kinda lazy about this :-? Im trying to avoid throwing any other additives in the mix, just maintain fresh water, keep it cold and aerated. after 24 hours now, pH nor ppm has fluctuated much at all.

Ive been running the crap out of my dehumidifier. Its a bitch to keep the air dry around these parts. Ill set it at 60% just so the unit gets a break from time to time, but itll run 24/7 to keep things down around 45-50% The temps are starting to drop around these parts too, so thatll help.

on with some bud pics, I havnt taken any with the lights on in awhile, you can see some of the issues on various leafs, but id say overall its hard to complain. hopefully ive managed to keep things from getting worse.

If you are having res temp problems, you should def be running some beneficial bacteria in there.
At least some Aquashield/HydroGuard, or brew a tea like I do.
Works wonders and helps the roots.

Ya I know, I really need to figure something out, I've mainly been hesitant due to lack of knowledge... I'd be inclined to go the tea route, but what's the basics of it all? I'll have to do some searching today

After jumping into the rabbit hole that is, compost tea. I'm a little Uneasy going that route, I don't really want to completely change the dynamics of this current grow. Maybe best off to just order something like you mentioned. With that said, dyna gro sells a product called KLN, http://www.dyna-gro.com/kln.htm
It seems like it's main use is for cuttings and transplanting, but it does mention 'revitalise poor root systems'. For the sake of simplicity I could go with this? Or would hydrogaurd/Aquashield offer something more beneficial?

OK wow, that sounds perfect right there... I just wasn't searching the right things apparently...

It looks pretty straight forward. just need 3 things according to that. Aquashield, zho powder, and the ancient Forrest soil... What do you use to sterilize with? I could setup the drain tubes to run into a bucket and just spray the medium from the top to kinda wash things down. And maybe let it soak for a bit too. I need to order this stuff asap. I'm around day 36 at the moment.

Just do a wash down, brew the tea, and when you add it, WATCH !

Just made an order, hope to be able to run this thru the system by friday. I got the zho powder, aquashield and the ancient forrest soil. Just need to track down some molasses. much thanks :blsmoke:
I think it all stemmed from the warm weather a few weeks back, on a couple occasions temps got up in the low 90s in the box. I know that water had to be pretty warm. Temps in the 50's tonight, opened the window in the room, so it shouldn't be hard to keep things chillieir, lol.

well its time to start brewing tonight! I got my hydro gaurd and ZHO powder. The Zho powder came in the other day and for the hell of it i tossed a teaspoon in my tub. After 24 hours, for the first time in a long time, pH reversed course. Instead of dropping over night like usual, it actually went up a few points. Im going to drain things tonight, and let some fresh water go thru the cycle while the tea is brewing ~24 hours and do a fresh change tomorrow night with the tea. Am i correct to add my regular nutes at this time? or do i need to wait?

on a side note, i turned my pump timer on manual earlier in the week, and forgot to put it back on auto before i went to bed. Ended up being a warm day, and when i opened the door that next night, i was staring at droop city. They perked up pretty quick, but it was a deadly sight to see.

Im definitely getting pretty close, put a leaf under the scope last night, very few clear trichs left, tons of cloudy ones, and just a few ambers.

These dudes coming down this weekend... The end of this grow has been weird, not sure I ever really figured out what was going on... But, overall things look good.

Perfect weather this weekend! Cooler Temps and humidity around 40-50%... Nice to have some dry air so my dehumidifier can actually keep up. Crossing fingers for zero mold issues.
I cut the northern lights first... I had three nice big colas on her 8-)
Didn't have time to get started on the pineapple chunks yet, I'll start trimming them up this evening, until then I Couldn't help sharing a pic of the N. L. :joint:

with no further delay, here we go. I started the process sunday evening.
The northern lights was first. I like to just chop a branch, trim it, and hang it in my little cardboard drying box. I never have to lay a bunch down, and its easy to take breaks.

by the time i was done trimming the northern lights it was pretty late. So i decided to chop the pineapple chunks at the base and hang the whole thing upside down in my grow box. Ive never trimmed this way, and just wanted to give it a shot. Ive always just cut a branch while the plant was still upright and trimmed immediately, it wasnt really any harder, just required a bit different technique, all the leaves kinda droop over the buds.

I got back to it monday evening, and finished trimming up all the pineapple chunk. I hung all these on coat hangers, and just dryed em in the grow box. Temps and humidity worked in my favor, it was pretty dry and warm the first few days, 75-80* and 40-50% RH. and Then temps started dropping and we got some rain, so humidity started rising up again. Then it got cool and dry the last few days.

By Wednesday night the northern lights in my cardboard drying box were ready for jars. I go through and cut everything off the stems and drop them on a cutting board to get a weight before jarring. I started to cut some of the smaller buds off the PC and felt it was still a little too wet, so i waited another day to finish cutting off the rest. I seemed to have gotten everything just right. My hygrometers in the jars were reading 65-70% after 12 hours, and after a few days of opening and shaking around, they've hit the sweet spot between 60-65%. I threw in some boveda packs and just keeping an eye on the process.

I separated my trim by plant, so ive got 3 good piles to make butter and such with. I just decarbed my first batch, gonna make some butter this afternoon.

After that first 12 of hours in the jar, opening them released some of the best smelling shit ive ever produced. I gotta say im pretty excited to try this stuff out. Ill wait at least another week before smoking any of the 'good shit' Ive smoked a few of the popcorn buds, the taste/flavor isnt really there yet, so i can only imagine at this point. But it sure do get you high tho!! lol

And then there is the weight. I took these numbers directly after trimming the buds off the stem.
57g off the northern lights and 43g off the smaller PC. Then there was the last one, my large PC put out 97g! Which comes to a grand total of 197g or 6.95 ounces. I aint complainin

These lights friggin rock, i just want to do a few more tweaks to enhance the corner lighting with either strip LEDS or just a better way to use my light bulb style LEDs. I introduced the UVB light, thanks to fishdeth, and id like to have one on each side. I just ran one this last time, and i feel like only half the cab was able to use the light. Which was my much larger pineapple chunk, and then half of the NL buds. Im not sure if the UVB light was the real reason that plant had more/larger buds or not. But i will continue to use them after watching that vid. lol Time to reboot!:peace:

that box works pretty good, ill leave it open when its wet, and close it when its dry. I wired an old phone charger up to a cpu fan, so i just plug the box in and go. Cut some old coat hangers to length, and poked them thru the box. use old twist ties and pieces of wire to hang. big ones in the front, small in the back.

yup yup, 62%. Ive been using the 8g ones, I picked up a few larger ones this time around. must be 24g or something, cant remember exactly but they are pretty big. Those 8g ones are perfect for most jars.
