New Bulb for First Indoor Grow?

I recently purchased a new 600 watt hps bulb and an E40 lampholder.this is going to be my first indoor grow as i have only ever grown outside,it is going to be in my cupboard it very minimalist because of the current lack of cash but any tips to help me out would be appreciated.thx
