Need all the best tips I can get for first time grow

Hey guys, I'm new here and decided that maybe everyone could post some REALLY GOOD TIPS for first time growing. And I figure other people looking for tips as well could find this. So to start out and keep this brief, one day I got the cool idea to take some seeds from the last of my reggie and germinate them. I really didn't think it would work because I'm new to this and I'm going off of what I'm learning online. Well the next day they popped. So with excitement and limited options where I'm from, I went and bought solo cup sized planting cups and Miracle Grow Seed Starter. I have a huge wooden chest I've put them in with two lights, a 14 watt or 900 lumens CFL and a daylight light from an aquarium which run 24 hours a day except I turn one off occasionally to cool down. Don't laugh, I'm working with what I have and can afford right now while saving up for nutes. From my understanding there is nutrients in the seed starter and the plant can provide its own nutrients for week or so. As of today It's only been 7 days exactly since I placed the seeds in toilet paper to germinate and they are already a few inch tall seedlings. Now, I'm looking for the best advice out there,..I'm talking about light watts and nutrients types, soil types. Do I HAVE to transplant? Whats the best thing to do in vegetation to make a better flowering stage? What can I do with male plants other than just throw them out? I read about reflecting the light with different things including some white paper or paint, what about white tshirts? I want to know as much as I can. Thanks!

I would say getting anything thats more reflective than the wood. Never used tshirts i would think they would trap light being fabric. I dont use nutes other than a good soil and a little worm castings for 2 months in veg and no deficiencies. The most common mistake is over feeding. Im not saying dont feed for two months, that is the style i have adopted though, let the plants use the nutrients in soil.

Get those lights a lot closer or add more light. That's the first thing you should address. Best of luck.

not sure on the dimensions, I put the lights alot closer. I'm hoping to find some brighter ones. Some of the plants I replanted a little lower in the dirt or added more dirt to the ones that I could. I'm noticing some yellowing. small amounts barely noticeable at first.

When you start giving nutes my cuzn had a plant 4 weeks old it was like 30cm from to of pot he says he gave nutes every day why it was that big maybe bit bigger

if the lights aren't too hot you can put them way closer to test it put your hand up to distance the plant will be from it and see if it irritates you any then it will hurt the plant... I have mine a couple inches away and she is doing great... still don't have a fan or exhaust system but she is growing good

about two and a half weeks in boii do they grow fast its my medication gotta have it and if you want the best results try ordering from a seed dispensary it is apparently legal and not to costy I got mine from midsweeksong and they gave me 2 freebies plus some candies but if your just experimenting I completely understand not wanting to have feminized seeds that are pressure

Best advice i can give

-Less is more works for everything except light, if the feeding chart says 1 tsp then use 1/4 and work your way up

-Don't over water

-The plant wants to grow so leave it alone, if she wants something she will tell you.

-Invest in a PH / moisture meter if your growing in soil ( it takes all of the guess work out of problem solving / should i water )
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MMUCZ2M?psc=1

-Invest your money in lights / genetics / nutrients prioritized in that order

-Like any project the most you can get out is what you put in, so figure out what your end goal is.

-for nutrients if you want plug and play easy explanation i recommend https://www.joeshydro.com/technaflora-recipe-for-success-starter-kit.html?fee=10&fep=28054&utm_source=googleproducts&utm_medium=feed&utm_content=cse&utm_term=9TF-TSK417&gclid=CMKT55js18oCFQiKaQod8FoK3A
They have a very easy to follow fool proof feeding chart, and for 40$ it's everything you need for a full grow

-Don't take peoples words for things, do you own research online / on the forum the information is everywhere

-Don't ask how much will i yield you will be laughed at

-Have fun with it

The light is roughly 6in above the plant, good news is I think I have some more lights that may be brighter. I just have to dig around and find them. Since I moved the light closer, overnight, it seems that 2 plants improved and have a more lively appearance I guess you can say.

You could always buy a soil that will feed for 30 days, like Fox Farm Ocean Forest. Or you could go with something where you add all the nutrients to it like ProMix (which is more like hydro). I personally prefer promix, but i like to know exactly what my plant is getting.

For nutrients I would go with dyna gro foliage pro. You can get a bottle off ebay for about $9 to your door. I would suggest supplementing silicon also (which makes your plants stronger and more drough resistant) in the form of dyna gro protekt. Only two bottles you need.

For lighting that space you might want to check out az2000s household led lighting information. There is a lot of information on them and they are going to put off a lot less heat than cfls. I would suggest some kind of fan to oscillate a breeze on them to make the roots go deeper and strengthen/thicken the stems.

Two questions you need to ponder.
1. How are you going to train your plants to stay small in a space like that? I would suggest learning about lst, topping, supercropping, and mainlining. In that order.
2. What are you going to do about smell? They may not smell now, but during flowering and trimming they will stink, even if they are small. Might want to learn about ventilation and odor control.

They sell really good refelctive material at walmart in the coleman/camping section as "fire blankets". Little $2-3 box will easily cover your walls. Or you could buy some of those car shade things that reflect the sun off the dash and cut it up and make it fit on the walls. The second is easier, but the first is cheaper.
