This is a friend of mine’s plant. It’s either Durban Thunder or P98 under 400-600w of HPS. Local soil that I think is fucking him up. And, he uses whoever makes that Bud Candy shit. I have noticed he overwatered in the beginning. I have told him I suspect it is one or more of a few things.

-pH issues
-Water retention in the soil and other horribly composed soil issues
-Root disease
-P and K def or lockout.

What do you guys think?

He keeps pHing kind of compulsively, and a few times, I have noticed he overwatered in the beginning. I have told him I suspect it is one or more of a few things.

Hey mate.
I reckon you're right on the money there.
Check em all!
Id be guessing its the sugar in the bud candy. But your mate wont find out until he takes the steps.
Mag and cal are main antagonists for nitrogen. Thats why if you leaves are dark, its probably lockout if the ph is outta whack.
Good luck bros'
Tim

That soil must be shit bro. The leafs look like they've got that overwatered droopy wrinkled look. I'd bet that soil is pretty compact if it's just native soil. My guess would be soil not drying out and lack of food....just my opinion

That’s what I’ve been kind of suggesting to him for the past month. That the medium retains too much water and becomes compact. He swears he doesn’t overwater it, but nearly every time I see his grow, he has an issue he wants to ask about, and I tell him it’s overwatering, but he swears up and down I have to be wrong. He’s a good guy, he’s just a hard case sometimes.

In my experience crappy soil will only lead to a crap harvest, too bad for your hard headed buddy who looks to be learning the hard way instead of listening to reason.:eyesmoke:

Ya, I've got hard headed friends as well. They either don't listen....or will end up taking your advice, then swearing you never said to do that....lol

I have a youngster who asked if I would teach him. I've known him since he was a toddler. He was born with spinal bifida and smokes for his back. He's been through some wicked surgeries but is doing quite good now that he's older. He's seems super eager to learn and has been reading lots of grow books, bibles etc. He's the son of one of my patients. He wants to grow good medicine for his ill mother. I can totally respect that. He also wants to help me tend garden this year. I could use some young help TBH. I told him I'd give him a spot to grow plants that he would be 100% in charge of.He has all these awesome ideas and I can already tell he's guna over complicate things. Sometimes you gotta let people fail miserably before they can succeed/learn.

"Failure is learning" :hump::hump::hump:
As long as the person is passionate about what they're learning. The people who think they'll just throw a bunch of money at it and succeed....are the ones I enjoy watching fail. I agree with you and @BarnBuster. Failures are all part of learning. I could lay everything out for this kid and pretty much guarentee good results.....but what's the fun in that.
