im using a home made dwc bucket, its a 20l bucket which ive cut a hole in the lid and mounted a net pot. im using a submersible air pump (hydor ario #1) and rockwool cubes and clay pebbles for a medium

im using lucas formula (gh flora micro/bloom) and im not testing ph or ec, i have a tds meter but dont really understand ppm. ive been topping up the res as she drinks with just plain water from the tap, then i have been doing a full res change every 2 weeks. im also keeping 2 x 500ml frozen water bottles in the res at all times to keep the temperature in there down (changed every 2 hours or so).

im 5 weeks in growing white widow and she looks healthy as, here is a pic or 2 (sorry about quality) there are a few deformed leaves but they look damaged and i only noticed as they emerged from the top so they may have come from me fiddling.

basically im looking to get 2-3oz of this one plant and need an idea of when i should put her into flower, i will be using a 250w hps with a dimpled reflector. with that light on humidity sits about 40% and temps stay between 25-28c. i only have about 4 feet height so cant let her get too big as there needs to be about 12" gap. i have previously flowered one of these seeds after about 4 weeks veg in soil and she didnt stretch that much. pretty much doubled in size but thats all so i have about another 6-7" of vertical growth before im gonna be forced to switch to flower. i havent topped/fimmed, im not using lst or scrog.

any input would be great.....

as i said im looking to get at least 2oz maybe more and wanna hear from some experienced DWC growers on when they think i should flower her.

Flower now. It'll probably triple in size. White Widow yields well. Remember, the last couple days (before you chop) of white widow requires total darkness (but keep the DWC / pumps going).

Top her, tie her down and let her veg out another week or so, you will increase your yield.

well i cant afford to run anything bigger than a 250w and i couldnt deal with the heat anything bigger would produce. i had 332w of cfls in there originally and the heat was getting up to the mid 30's which is a big no no.

and i have seen people pull 3oz using 170w of cfls so i know it can be done, its just finding the right strain and getting the environment steady all the way through. ive seen a journal on here somewhere with a guy pulling 356g from one auto in dwc using 180w led (dont quote me on the led watts) i know they are probably 1000w equivalent but i know it can be done, thanks for the input though, i appreciate it muchly. see you in 8-10 weeks with my harvest :) wish me luck

It can be done. You'll yield well. White widow is mostly sativa and will grow a lot, so you want to flower it around 12" or so, especially if you're space-limited with height. I would not recommend topping it. 9/10 white widow seeds for me, had really long, big colas. Imagine a bud almost the size of your wrist to your elbow. But you will be less than impressed (with the potency) unless you hit it with darkness 2-3 days before you chop.

I have grown white widow before, from seeds and later from clone. I can't recommend topping it. Flower around 12 inches tall. My white widow destroyed everyone that smoked it. I don't touch the stuff anymore, because I thought that it was too strong/sativa. I grew very indica Blueberry at the time and liked it, hated the sativa feel of the widow, but that's just a personal preference. It yielded me about 2 ounces per plant, under 250 watts of HPS, in a really half-ass SWC hydro setup.

nice to hear good reports. i did try growing a couple last time round but one hermied on me but i didnt realise until it was too late. i had topped them and to me it seemed like it didnt take to it too well. i think that the hermie was because of light leaks which i have fixed now. hopefully i dont get a 6ft plant cos i havent got the space. its got about another 2ft of growing space before it starts growing into the light/burn area. im sure if it does get like that i can bend a few stems.

im actually amazed by the rate of growth in dwc. yesterday there was pistils. today there are clusters and the branches are starting to grow above the fan leaves. she is amazing me everyday. even my autos didnt grow this quickly.
