Two fans circulating air and an extractor

Five weeks in


Slight mag deficiency I think , will be foliar spraying with LAB next week as I currently have it brewing

Hey, what kind of soil is that? It seems to be much too dense for optimal root aeration.

They are nutrient burnt. You can tell by the yellow tips of the fan leaves.

There is too much light for the two small plants. it is wasting a lot of money in electricity and the plants couldn't possibly benefit from wasted light shining on a wall or floor when the foliage is not beneath it.

If you move each of the plants close (4") to one cfl each, it will provide much better results. I used to build ducted cfl grow lights 400w for veg and have years of experience with them, even for flowering ... But I use my MH now because I need faster growth.

Also, there may be too much airflow for small plants. They really enjoy a mild climate. Movement of air is most important once they're larger. Excess wind can actually stunt growth and dehydrate leaves.

You're doing a lot right, and it's great to see you on here getting opinions!

Oh btw, what have you feed the plant and what pH was the water each time? That info helps us to provide accurate help for new cultivators.

Ok so soil im running a 3 way split of mushroom compost peat moss and perlite , the reason it looks so dense is a top dressing I did about a week ago of worm castings , im surprised I'm getting nute burn if all the fert I'm using are organic , like kelp and seagrow which is a fish meal based thang

Watering I do once a week 200mls per 5ltr pot which consists of
Aact with castings water and molasses ,
I'm currently doing a LAB run which I'm gonna foliar feed daily just to keep my micro herd in check
Um the fans I have on em aren't really that windy they aren't directly on the girls so they just do a little dance heheheh

Um so do u suggest I remove 2 of those bulbs and then run em lower to the foliage ? Or just leave em the height I have em with the 4 bulbs ?

I would recommend moving to one cfl per plant, at like 4" from foliage as long as heat is not an issue. I have had great results with 18w cfls essentially touching my leaves with no light burn and fast growth(for cfl hehe) yours are 85s and I usually keep those a few inches away because of the warmth. Truthfully though, the ballast of the cfl gets way hotter than the coil.

The leaf tips seem to be clearly showing nutrient burn. Strange, because like you mentioned with organic low dose nutrients coupled with beneficial enzymes etc there should not be a burn.

No big deal, but I would really encourage you to try the one fan thing and never point it directly at foliage. It has improved my growth rate since I cut back my fans a bit, but to each their own. If it gets you the results you desire, do it up :leaf:

Thanks for the reply I will def take two lamps out as the temp stays at like 30degrees cel and I raised the one one fan off the plants so they dnt dance , yea the cfl ballasts do get a bit hot , thanks so much for the advice will def try ur advice and run one per plant then I will save on globes and a bit of electrIcity

Yes, blue and purple LED mainly (other spectrum of light is emitted too, but the purple color is visible throughout the grow to the human eye), many prebuilt units are all over the place for cheap and will grow a decent plant. Much better than CFL for so many reasons.

I went the route of building my own COB unit for not much more exepensive than a cheap blurple unit, but if you want a better light than CFL for cheap and easy, id say go blurple.

If you feel like building, make a lm561c s6 bin diode custom build with deep reds or COB LED (i went with citi 1212 3500k as a test and am happy so far. Need to tweek it a bit and add some more red LEDs for the perfect midgrade light).

If you want the best LED but dont want to build a thing, get a quantum board or something else similar with lm561c s6 diodes.

Whatever you choose, ill tell you now that if you try to finish off that plant with CFL only you wont be happy with the results. Cfl is only good for veg stage.

The more cobs or led strips you have, the softer you can run them in your area to improve effeicency and lifespan of your light. I went a basic route of laying out my chips on the aluminum with thermal adhesive paste, and running a long wire to all pos and neg connections then grouped those all together in parallel to my driver. I went on YouTube and researched alot

I was under the assumptuon that those had a lower PAR lm/w than higher end LED. Also a reduced lifespan on the bulbs vs LED.
That's true.

Was high end LED an option for this grower?

I was giving personal recommendation based on my experience with both HPS and LED.

If you can afford top of the line, then it will be the best choice. Most people can't or don't want to.

Top of the line LED can be sourced for dirt cheap if you want to/have the ability to to learn DIY. Im new af, only on my second grow and poor as shit growing in an ikea closet with old buckets for my root mass cause im soo cheap. Imo, high end LED is an option for anyone. Esp if my cheap brokeass can throw a couple hundred at building some nice LED that will last a lifetime if taken care of properly. Just here to spread the word to my fellow noobs :)

That's awesome man!

Respect for cob builds. I haven't done one yet but when material costs come down in a few years, I'll be all about it.

For now, I was talking more along the lines of a 400w HPS with dimmable ballast. $100 for something that would out perform most small LED arrays.

If you have money for cob components, that would be a great choice too imo.
