Alright I live in an apartment and for some reason my room is hotter than the other rooms. With the ac unit @ 74 degrees my room is 81 degrees, then I have my grow cab inside my closet causing tempetures to easily exceed 85 degrees. Pumping out mass AC would be like killing a fly with a nuke... a very expensive nuke at that. Rather than making the whole apartment colder for my room I was thinking of buying a portable AC unit that runs works off the principle of evaporation. What do you guys think?

And why do u think my room is so hot compared to the main room? Anyone know of anything I can do to get more cool air in my room?

i got a window fan bringing in fresh air and three fans for my closet, one for bringing air in one for taking air out and one just to move air around in the room.

I would also like to know the answer to that. And would a window ac unit work in a room like a closet or would i actually need the window? heh

Pompeii,

There are much easier solutions available for both you and your plants, instead of a portable A/C, have you considered a registry booster? I'm assuming you have central a/c by what you stated regarding the differences in the temps of the separate rooms. Some registry boosters have built in thermostats, when the room cools down to the temp of the other rooms, they can shut off. Others without a thermostat, simply run 24/7

Another cheaper DIY method is to simply slap a 120mm quiet fan to the air duct, this works ok, the fan can go inside the vent or on the outside. Just use an ac/dc $6 adapter to power the 12volt fan (reason I suggest a 12volt fan rather than a AC 120volt fan is that normally always, the 120volt fans are noisy. 12volt 120mm fans come in a plethora of CFM and dBA levels, some are uber quiet, some not so quiet, but nearly all 120volt 120mm fans are outrageously loud.

It's worth the $$ since it can help cool down your 82* room, for you and the foliage

Sorry it took so long to reply, thanks a lot for the information OneCanSam. I'll look into it but recently I hooked an air duct from my air vent directly to my cabinet which has been giving me temperatures between 80 and 86 which is much better than before. I ordered some insulated ducting too so that should cool it down even further whenever it arrives.
