Mr. Nice Critical Mass grow

Hello fellow growers,

This is for the most part my REAL first grow. My last grow was done like 2-3 years ago which turned out good but could of been a lot better. That being said I am currently growing Mr.Nice Critical Mass from seed, and plan on keeping two mothers for cloning purposes. With my last grow I ran into issues with the buds (Red Dragon) smelling like grass. I know that it is from improper drying and curing. I made a dryer out of a plastic tote with a 6in duct fan, dried buds in 24hours, placed in mason jar for 24hr moisture returned, placed buds back in dryer and done within 24 hours and stayed dry. Smoke was ok but I am sure it could of been better, and grass smell rather than bud smell. As I get to the harvesting and curing process GOOD ADVICE will be greatly appreciated, I am not a lazy grower I do research before relying on others to do it for me.

Here are my items:

Seeds from: http://www.worldwide-marijuana-seeds.com

Seeds: (6) (regular) Mr. Nice Critical Mass
Fertilizers: Advanced Nutrients Sensi Grow A&B (Veg phase), Sensi Bloom A&B (Bloom phase)
Additives: Advanced Nutrients Big Bud, Bud Candy, Rhino Skin, Overdrive
Meduim: Soil (Foxfarm - Ocean Forest)
Grow Tent: 6.5ft x 6.5ft x 6.5ft
Light: 1000w MH, HPS Wing reflector, (6) 23w CFL @ 6500K (Veg phase), (6) 23w CFL @ 2700k (Bloom phase)
Pest Control: Neem Oil, Cinnamon, Diatomaceous Earth, Home Defense (NOT IN TENT)
Tools: PH Tester, PPM Tester, 60x Loupe, Humidity meter
Ventilation: (2) 6in Duct Fan @ 240cfm.

I still need to get a carbon filter, but from the looks of things all is well. Any suggestions, questions, concerns, thoughts/advice is more than welcomed and thanks in advance

I WILL POST UPDATES WEEKLY WITH PICS!!!

Germination process started. Placed (6) Regular Mr. Nice Critical Mass seeds in room temp distilled water and placed in a dark area. After 2 hours (2) of the (6) seeds have sank to the bottom while the others are still floating. After 24hrs hopefully all will have sank and then I will be placing them on moist paper towels for another 24hrs, and then to the growing plug/root tray.

All seeds have sank to the bottom, (1) is already showing roots. I have removed from water and moved to paper towels.

looks great bro. I think I'll put mine on 18/6 too, gives the lights a rest, the power consumption is decreased a bit and helps with root development

Thanks LGC. I took some pictures before the lights went out. What do you think about the progress on the pics below. Helmets still on and (4) of the (6) sproutings are in a candy cane shape within the plug while the other (2) are out. I am hoping they push through and pop straight up. I am a little nervous and as a precaution will be moving to 3 gallon pots today.

I removed some of the plug to allow the sprouting room to pop up.

Yesterday, I moved the girls into 3 gallon pots and placed under 1000w MH. I turned down the ballast power to 75%, and will up to 100% next week. Will post pics when they wake up.

Seedling Stage: Day 1

Temp and RH High: 81F, 99%
Temp and RH Min: 65F, 39%
Water PH: 6.8

2nd set of leaves have grown on all (6). I know the humidity is too high, but once I install my air out-take vent that problem will be solved.

GL on the grow. I think Mr Nice gear is among the best available right now. I've had great success with MNS beans.

How come you up-planted right to the 3G pots from starter cubes? Usually I've transplanted a few times, ending up in 3G or 5G pots.

I see no reason to go through the stages of moving up to a 3G vs just doing it. On a past grow I went from starter cube > Red Solo Cup > 3G, but dont like going through the process of getting the girls out of the cups.

What benefit is there from transplanted a few times rather than directly to 3G??

I amend my soil depending upon where in the cycle I am, eg: when I up-plant into 3-5g pots, my plant will be ready to go to flower, so I add high P guano, and more worm castings, etc...

I believe there are other advantages, but I'm not sure exactly what.

I'm just interested peoples' process and thoughts as to why they do what they do.

Cheers!

Makes a lot of sense!! I agree, regardless if I dont use a method, I still like to know how and the advantages of using it. Knowledge is power they say.

Vegetation Stage Day 1 (STARTED 5/5/14 Sunday)

Vegetation Stage Day 1 actually began 5/5/14 (Sunday). A total of 4 nodes and 5th starting. Growth rate is going great and overall everyone looks good!! I have about 4 sites so far and will be waiting another week and cut a clone from each, root them, and put under 23w CFL @ 2700k 12/12 to determine sex. Fed them Advanced Nutritions Grow A and Grow B(1/2 of recommending dosage), and Rhino Skin(full dosage). Starting them off with 1/2 dosage to see how they do. Sometime this week I will be spraying down leaves and undersides with Neem Oil as prevention for pest.

Thanks bro and congrats on CM grow. Any tips you can pass along as I go through this journey would be greatly appreciated.

(1). What type of lighting did you have?
(2). How did you determine when to harvest?
(3). How many days/weeks did you flower before chopping?
(4). What was your dry yield per plant?

I plan on going for majority cloudy vs amber.

(1). What type of lighting did you have? 4 60w cfl (6400k), 2 85w cfl(6400k) and 6 45w cfl(6400k) for vegetative and 16 26w cfl(2700k), 4 18w cfl (6400k) for flower. I believe in mixed spectrum for flower with cfl...

(2). How did you determine when to harvest? 20% amber, 80% cloudy trichomes.

(3). How many days/weeks did you flower before chopping? I flowered for 9.75 weeks, or 66 days...

(4). What was your dry yield per plant? I got 6.7oz to 8.5 ounces all topped after the 5th node.

Buds filled out after week 6... huge.....
