Mother Plant

I have a seedling that is about two feet tall. I want to use her as my mother plant. I've topped her once but she's getting taller than I'd like. I read that if you top them too much, they mutate and sometimes hermaphrodite. Is this true? And where is the best place to take clones from? Top? Bottom? I've heard people say not to "lollipop" the plant. Any info or advice would be much appreciated.

if its a seedling are you sure its female?

This is true its called high stressing the plants

If you are cloning then don't from the top. Select lower branches. Due a search on the "sea of green method", which really gets into cloning a mother plant

To lollipop a plants refers to pruning the plant and giving a lollipop appearance. Just remember that this method can stress the plant and can have negative affects

I would say to buy some feminized seeds

yea do u kno if its a female u cant tell untill u are able to put in flowering stage, u can prune the plant if its geting to tall

You won't have to worry about lolly poping the plants this is only realy done on plants are going to be put to flower.this may sound a little scary squeeze the top where you would like your plants height to be.by squeezeing the plant the top will fold over you have to squeeze the stem hardish though and it will fold in time a few days it will grow up again after a couple of days put a tie wrap around the bend it will grow up the side of its old stem the other stem won't die neither will the top.you want to be looking for brances with more than 3/4 nodes on them ake your cutting from the 4th or 3rd node

Thanks. So take cuttings from the bottom? I've cut clones before, but off of an outdoor plant that was about to flower. This one looks so young and tender... lol

Bottom branches have more hormones and easier to clone, as you go up, its gets harder to clone.

id tie her down w/o hurting the top like he said to, it seems silly to make the plant stem strongest on where u want it to stop growing
