Hi
im nearly about to set my room up
and i have everything
except choice of light hasn't been made yet.
i was planning to put in like 10, 27watt cfls (for my 3 plants)
but i guy at my college said that it was insufficient for vegetative growth
he said i'd need AT LEAST a 400w sodium fluro.
help?
haha cheers,
tom

No lol that would be fine. dont listen to him...! Hps is a + but Cfls are g00d.!
10 - 27watts would be fine for about 5 but if you go with 3 then bigger buds
42w are a little better 10x 42w would grow nice plants.

Your better off using 4 foot florescent tub lighting.Figure for cfls you need 6 minimum per plant for veg and then more for flower. They heat up alot and you have to move them alot so its cheaper easier and cooler to use 4 foot shop lights

As for CFLs heating up, Iv always heard the exact opposite.
10 CLFs would be good, just make sure to have white walls/mylar to reflect the light.
The more watts, the better. Of course, with CFLs, you need to suspend them a few inches above the plants, and you'll have to keep moving them up a little bit to compensate for plant growth.

well if it was a sealed anything any amount of heat would build up, its all about venting, thats how people can control temps with multiple HID running... its not rocket science.

Agreed, when I said what I did, I thought Venting went without say.

So lemme rephrase, 'As for CFLs heating up, Iv always heard the exact opposite as long as there is decent venting'

Dont worry... CFLs are great.

HPS is just a preference. Yes they are good, and yes they are expensive. They are worth it to the long term grower, but its just a preference.

Put a fan on CFLs and you could hold on to one and not be burnt..
