Hello,

Just interested in starting a thread about heating and ho to do it most efficiently in small spaces...

I'm currently using a small tube heater with a built in stat to control the heat in my groom, my concern with this is that I am only heating the air, which is being sucked out of the box by the extract fan. Not a very efficient solution I fear...
Has anyone experimented with soil heaters or reptile heating mats?

I've done a bit of reading and it strikes me that keeping the soil temperature at a fairly constant 20-22C is more important to continual growth than the ambient air temperature. Can anyone reflect on this from experience?

Ideally a small reptile heat mat (10-20w?) controlled by a thermostat in the soil...

I know there are some solutions for large grows..... Anyone here adapted for small grow?

Just at night?

During the light on, you could stifle the exhaust to get interior temps to rise without a seperate heater, although humidity will probably rise, but an interior fan would help that...

Abiqua I think you hit the nail on the head

in an ideal situation we would have free air movement without lose of heat but I guess these things are exclusive if we are heating the air.


A possible solution; the problem being that it seems wasteful to heat the air with a tube heater / oil radiator for it to be sucked out by the extract fan. Yes we can retard the incoming air but with some detriment to the environment perhaps?

Idea:
Heat the plant using a reptile or propagator heat pad, and control it using a small probe thermostat.

Has anyone else done this before? (i've found a digital thermostat with probe for £10 on amazon, + £20 for a small propogator mat)

What are other people doing to keep their small scale grows in the correct temperature range?
