MH Vs. HPS

Hey guys, I have 2, 4ft flo's, and a 400W HPS, Flo's for Clone rooting, seedlings and MOM's, 400 HPS for flowering (veggin also right now), however, I was lookin into buying another 400w HID for veggin especially once I get a lil further into the cycle of things. I have heard somewhere on these boards (can't recall where) that MH is better for Veg and HPS is better for Flowering, so if im gettin a HID specifically for veggin, should I go ahead and get a MH? OR am I missinformed and should I just buy another HPS??? Thanks for clearing this up for me ^_^!

MH the blue spectrum it gives is better for veg...i would suggest that...u can use hps for flower but no point it gets hotter and wont last as long.....thats my experience w it...

you could get a conversion bulb and use that long enough for you to be able to get the mh comfortably without having to kill your pocket, by paying for it all @ one time.

It all comes down to your space really and how much room you have to flower with, if you have enough room to run 2 x 400w hps in your flowering room then i would probably go with the deluxe 400 from htg that gives you a multi ballast and 1 mh and 1 hps bulb, then you can veg with the mh with all your plants and then when they grow in size and are due to flower you can change the bulb and flower with 2 400s

thanks for the idea mate. I can use a setup like that. I have an 8ft room to play around with....and i would like a perpetual harvest style that gives me more yield right now i get 6 plants every 2 weeks and i have 3 stages under the 400 watt. I have a fourth stage for the first 2 weeks for flowering under 6-T12 bulbs.

im thinking of making a tent out of mylar to hang around the 400watt in a cone type shape and putting a box fan in the side to vent the air. any thoughts on this?

conversion bulbs are good idea if have an extra hps ballast

If your still planning on buying a ballast I Highly recomend a HPS/MH ballast, I have a 1000w ballast, can switch between HPS and MH with the flick of a switch, no expensive conversion bulbs, no issues. All the switch does is disable the igniter as the MH doesnt need it.
