MEK extract hash

When you have others on here who work with it and talk about the shit possibly left around it just doesn't sound like a good idea lol
To each his own. I like a low toxicity solvent with good evaporating characteristics and the ability to separate from water. Butane would be my first choice if it was a liquid at room temperature but since it's not I have to go to the ketone. It's as safe as butane and easier to handle so why not? Am I going to reject a solvent because a few people didn't like working with it or noticed that it has the ability to dissolve certain plastics like styrene? Ethanol can dissolve lots of things, yet you probably still drink it. One beer is worse for you than a kilo of MEK extract.

the EPA will crawl up the companies ass if the air concentrations are reported as being high, seen it

If you have a good process butane is not nearly as volatile as one believes. I use mason jars when blasting and the jars sit in ice/saltwater while I'm blasting and are frozen with the trim/bud in it for hours before hand. The butane leaves the can goes into the jar sitting below boiling temp sits with the trim/bud for 10-15 minutes then coffee filter on top put plastic piece back on (I use the huge Masons without a screwtop holds a hp on average) and turn it over and place it over the purge dish. The purge is only volatile part and done outside in open air always

Reclaim your solvents please! Refine your products leave no solvents. Dont use ridiculous "research" chems. Learn the process from a chemistry site rather then a pot site. Do research before attempts for safety and common sense reasons

I'm probably not going to use MEK after all. I think 50% ethanol will work better. By diluting it to 20% the resinoid will sink to the bottom. This has the advantage of no chlorophyll or water solubles.

Why?

Is there a reason you don't wanna do what we've all found to work well?

What chemists and otherwise knowledgeable people think is best..

The reason is selectivity. With 50% alcohol the extract will be amber color but the higher the concentration after that the greener the extract. Using 95% will guarantee maximum chlorophyll and other extraneous compounds. The water in the alcohol will extract water soluble material but the water gets thrown away. So with this method you get a cleaner product with higher potency. You can even use it to improve other extracts like BHO or CO2 extract. You can dissolve BHO in 50% ethanol and filter and wash out the water soluble gunk, increasing the quality markedly.

The percentage of alcohol has to be over 40 though or the cannabinoids won't get extracted. To make it drop out of the solution you dilute it to less than 20%. You may have to evaporate it down considerably to get the extract to drop out. I don't know about using iso but probably about the same concentration. Could probably use regular 70% rubbing alcohol and dilute it to 50%, as long as there's no additives. You do have to dry the extract to get the water out. You would try for a moisture content of about 10% or less.
