Marleau serves as Chair of the Senate Health Policy Committee, Vice Chair of the Committee on Insurance

I have a face to face meeting with State Rep. Marleau scheduled for the end of this week.
I have 30 to 45 minutes scheduled. They know what the topic will be and it our opportunity to get our point across. I don't want to miss a thing.

I know they are trying to limit insurance on our homes, give our information to the police, completely outlaw dispensaries. Please help me with what I need to say about the nuances of the legislation and how it affects us all.

Ask them how someone is supposed to start to grow their own medicine when they cant buy clones or seeds. also ask them how they are supposed to get meds while theirs is growing without P2P sales or legal dispensaries.

I would bring a copy of Northern Labs findings and personally hand it to him, and explain that not only are a lot of patients going to be forced to buy their medicine on the streets illegally, the crap they will be smoking will undoubtedly be doing more harm than good. Tell him that black market drug dealers are the only people who will benefit from most of this new legislation if passed. Also point out that there is an obvious red flag when both the illegal drug dealers and lawmakers agree on the proposed legislation.

Good job, maybe you should politely remind marleau that with this new marijuana law taking shape that the people that voted to get the law passed are also the same people that are becoming more politically involved more then ever. Just a nice little thought to stick in the back of their minds that people are going to fight for what they believe in with the stroke of a pen when the vote counts for certain individuals to keep their job.

One of the things that scare me the most is the coursts not allowing MMJ to be used as a defense for patients in their court trials.

You might also mention that after the state has received millions of dollars from patients they still can not get their cards to them in a timely manner causing undue hardship.

Last but not least, a regular physician is not allowed to prescribe MMJ so they will not write certs. If legislation is passed making stricter rules for bonafide pt/Dr relationships it will make it unaccessible to those in need.

Thank you for your thoughts. Please keep them coming. I plan on making a document that I can hand to him with all your comments included and print outs of data if your with that would be appreciated too.

Northern Labs finding? I hadn't heard of that but I will google it and hope it pops up.

Thanks again

be nice would be the first thing, but from your avatar you seem that way already.

Ask him why cannabis is a schedule 1 drug which they say is more dangerous than herion.
Show him statistics of cancer from tobacco and alcohol related deaths and the hold up your finger for the one death attributed to cannabis (mine after I smoke all mine tonight, VACATION)

I am sure he has heard all the rhetoric I would reiterate your position on medical marijuana nd show him that you are a registered voter in your area though I am sure his staffers will already have that information.

Did I say be nice? :-)

I would find out the sum total in political contributions from the Tobacco, Alcohol, and Pharmaceutical industries.
I would then write down all three figures. Take these numbers and ask on behalf of us 63%,
which of these figures must we meet to get 63% worth of representation from our state representatives? or at the very least, how much to get a say in any proposed changes to the law.
Feel free to paraphrase

Show figures on Overdose from prescription drugs.
Ask:
-How will closing these dispensaries help our broken economy? Where will these former employees find work now that they've lost their jobs? How will the building owners fill their vacancies now that they've lost their tenants?
-How much tax money is being spent on prosecuting law-abiding cardholders who are denied a Medical Defense? How much income tax revenue is lost by jailing these taxpayers?
-Why did it take a ballot initiative to bring Medical Marijuana to Michigan? Who wasn't doing their job that it took the people to step up and get it done?
-What right does the Legislature have to overrule the will of the people? How much tax money is being spent trying to change the peoples law?
-Since the law past, how has it negatively affected the people?
-How is the money we send to the state being spent?
-Why should non-drug related felons be prevented from caring for their close family and friends? Why should they be punished again?
-How will the poor be able to afford regular doctor visits if a bonafide doctor/patient relationship is required? How bonafide must an ER doctors relationship be with his/her patient before they can prescribe standard narcotics?
