Medical topical rub or salve for pain

I have a bunch of high CBD buds that I don't want. I didn't enjoy the medicine. I almost threw it out, but tossed it in the freezer for some reason. Now I know why.

My friend was just telling me that his family takes outdoor bud and soaks it in alcohol for a strong pain reliever. I was wondering if I could use Glycerin pg/vg to soak the buds and create a rub. my thought is that the glycerin would stay on the wound or sore spot better.

I am thinking of grinding 1/4 oz of bud then adding it to a jar with some glyserin and cooking it in a hot water bath for several hours then just keep it in a jar.

Any thoughts?

I was just talking to another member today about tinctures, and he made his this way. He recommended not bringing the temp over 190F degrees. This was a tincture tho. Have you thought about how well the glycerine would absorb into the skin? if thats a factor if any

Thanks for the reply. I did some more research. It seems that olive oil works very well. Then they mix it with bees wax and blu emu oil. The blue emu oil opens up the pores. You can also rub the area with a lemon wedge first to allow for better absorption.

They heated the mj in water and olive oil. The oil soaks up the cannabinoids and the water keeps it from burning. Then when the mixture cools the oi separates and you strain it off then mix.

I am thinking that coconut butter would also work well and it is a semi solid at room temps.

They recommend not getting it hot enough to decarboxolate just like you are suggesting for the tincture. Your tincture would have medical qualities, but may not necessarily be psychoactive depending on how much decarboxolation took place.. It's still CBDA and THCA most likely or some combination of CBD/CBDA and THC/THCA. Apparently the A's have more medical value and your body can absorb more A's than the decarbed version..

What's your plan for the tincture?

I made a tincture using Bacardi 151. It was horrible. I threw it out :) Burned the crap out of my mouth and tasted like gasoline. I spoke to a person that uses black berry brandy for tinctures. I guess I would decarb in the oven then put the bud and brandy in a warm bath for a bit then let it sit on the shelf for 30 days. The brandy doesn't have a very high alcohol content so it would need a lot of time on the shelf.

So how are you going to make your tincture? How will you standardize and measure the dose?

I made a drink once where I ground up about an eight of bud. Then I looked at it and said "now how much of this would I need to smoke or eat to get medicated? I decided that 1/2 tsp was about right so I added 1/2 tsp of bud for ever 2 ounces of coconut milk. I decarbed the bud then cooked the milk and bud for a while on low heat. It came out great. I used 2 oz of milk per serving. I used the milk to add to turmeric tea.

One mistake I did make was on the first batch of coconut milk I added butter for extra fat because coconut milk (The beverage type in the milk cooler next to the almond milk) isn't all that high in fat. Well the butter separated from the coconut milk and rose to the top of the jar and upon sampling I pretty much ingested a few grams of weed. I levitated over my bed for most of the night :) :) Live and learn.

This is my absolute favorite beverage
2 oz of the coconut milk/bud mixture
6 oz hot water
2 tsp tumeric
2 tsp ground or fresh ginger
honey or sugar or sweetner to taste.

This will fix anything that ales a person :)

Diabolic, thanks for the recipe, I've had skin issues with this for so long, it's nice to see a post with info about it. I just wanted to share about a website that has more recipes and rubs for pain, it's at how to tighten skin here. Thanks again!

Coconut oil is a poor choice as a salve..I prefer unrefined sunflower oil and 5-10% etoh. What you suggested with the olive oil, given its quality and emu is OK.. The cannabinoids in the carboxylic form are not able to cross the blood brain barrier, yes you will receive certain medical affects. This is best suited for certain ailments like localized arthritic type pain etc. Many of the medical affects are mediated by the brain, your limited on what pathways are affected in the body..unfortunately that does mean you will also get the high that comes with that if yiur opposed...pain isnt all the same
