While there is hope here but currently there is still a big push for very limited use. Hopefully this election year proves different but with the exception of Presidential elections the voter turnout is very conservative.
Two social conservatives within the party, Sens. Rob Bradley, R-Fleming Island, and Aaron Bean, R-Fernandina Beach, announced they were filing a bill (SB 1030) to legalize the version of cannabis high in the non-euphoric cannabidiol (CBD), and low in the chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which gets people high when they smoke the plant.
The drug is nicknamed "Charlotte's Web" after a 6-year-old Colorado girl with a rare and severe form of epilepsy who has regained the ability to walk through use of the drug.

House Bill 843 would amend the definition of cannabis in the Florida Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act to exclude marijuana that is both less than 0.5% THC and more than 15% CBD.

Interesting thus far. The submitted bills have garnered more attention than previous years. More than likely due to the amendment drive (vote yes on 2 in Nov.). The drive and polls have shown that medical cannabis is now a main topic this year and more than likely Amendment 2 will pass. While this is an off election year and is usually a lower voter turnout United For Care has shown it is more than capable of getting people out to support the drive. With two high profile FL attorneys onboard for fund raising and media generation I'm more than hopeful that FL will be the first southern state with MMJ available to those who desperately need it. The last count for bills in FL this session is at 6 I believe (one just details the wording of cannabis HB843). HB859/SB962/SB1030/HB1039/SB1562 with the last two listed for recreational use, which was quite surprising. Perhaps after seeing the tax revenues from CO, lets face it MONEY TALKS!!

Yeah hopefully it goes...infinitely more progress than has ever been made. They are still fighting the wording of Amendment 2 in court. The biggest part is the job wasn't done signing the petition definitely need folks to come out in Nov.

Per the email I got from United for Care. Still Amendment #2 in November is the one that really needs to pass."Today, the Florida House of Representatives did what was unthinkable a year ago: a (CBD-only) medical marijuana bill was passed out of committee with only one “nay” vote.
I cannot overstate how important this is to our mission of bringing compassionate care to Florida. The fact that our legislature – which previously would not even give medical marijuana a hearing – passed this bill shows how the door to sensible policy is finally cracking open.
But this bill is very, very narrow and simply does not provide access to care to ALL those who need it.
The bill passed today approves a specific strain of marijuana called "Charlotte's Web" - which has been shown to help a small number of conditions such as epilepsy, Dravet’s Syndrome and other seizure disorders.
Amendment 2 - which we will pass in November - will help people across the spectrum of debilitating illnesses and conditions, from those with cancer and AIDS, to those with glaucoma, MS, and severe neuropathic pain.
We want the legislature to pass this bill. It's a step forward for the patients and families that are desperate for the relief that “Charlotte’s Web” can bring – and it sends a message to Floridians that marijuana is, in fact, medicine."
