Medical Cannabis Restrictions??

I have an appointment for to see Medicann in San Fran next week. My question is, does having a Med card have any restrictions on employment? A friend told me he read it somewhere that said the State won't employ you if you are a medical cannabis card holder/user, even if you only have it for a year and never renew it etc. Anyone know if this is true?? I'm really curious to know before I actually go and get my card.. HELP!

EDIT: Lemme edit this. I know that employers CAN fire you if you get tested positive for marijuana. But I'm talking about the employment process - do u need to mention to employers that you have a card? Will employers like the State KNOW I have a card and not hire?

I believe there are certain laws regarding medical usage when it comes to drug tests for employment. As long as you prove you have the medical card there's not much they could really do.

stays relevant.
Here in California whether or not you get employed after having a drug test show positive for cannabis is at the discretion of the employer. Having a medical recommendation from a doctor will not prevent this type of discrimination.

The governor recently decided that medical marijuana patients CAN be discriminated against by current or prospective employers. It's best to explain the situation to the employer and hope for understanding. Sorry.

Correct. I know this part. But let's say, in a couple of years I just stop taking marijuana completely. I never renew my card, and I pass the drug test. There is nothing that requires me to let the employer know I was once a med. marijuana user right? Is there any way for them to know? And I know our gov. here in Cali vetoed the bill.. =\

I think what happens is its on your record, like file that you were a user but just say that you had a time right there where cannabis was necessary. If there is no drugs in your system and you dont have a card any leverage they have should vanish!!! But they still might descriminate and in that case you really want to work for a bunch of hypocritical azzholes?

We have MMJ here in Montana but with that comes the discrimination, Just because you have a card doesn't mean you can be high or test positive and do those certain jobs that put people at risk, be it you or others so really any job that requires a drug test is not a job you will get. Also once you are done and over it, here they say the law enforcement officials are not the ones who know you have a card just the health Dept. I don't know of any job application that you would ask that of you? Just be sure to not write it and not get a job that requires a drug test, Then if you do and it comes back dirty maybe then you should tell them, it may make the difference but it is discrimination non the less.

No, I do no believe they would even be able to check the database. In states where there's a statewide registry, the database is off limits to everyone but law enforcement and LEO's can only ask someone with access to check and verify that a medical card is legit, they can't access any more info than that. So no, do not think that any state agency would be able to check that database prior to your employment; it's confidential.

Damn.. so that kind of scares me. My appointment's this wednesday! (2 days!) Should I still go in?? I do have chronic back pain (been having it for a year+, and the chiropractor didn't really help). I'm also about 2 years from graduating at a University, and I don't want to jeopordize anything. Need some advice....
