This is why I changed my mind from the Vero 29 to the CXA3070 AB x 4

With cxa3070 you still need to run in parallel with hlg185h-36. You can run as many as you like on that driver. You can run as many vero29 as well. With parallel setup you take the current of that driver which is 5.2 amps and divide it amongst the cobs. So if running 4 it's 1.3 amps. If you want to use c spec drivers and run cobs in series you can only fit 3 cxa3070 or 3 vero 29 on the driver.

You need to know the vf of the cob you are considering at the current you are looking at. In the case of cxa3070 and vero29 the total voltage will be to high to fit hlg-185hc1400b. The c spec massages the difference here. Don't get the drivers confused they are different.

I didnt realize cxa3070 and cxb3070 were lested with different VF.
I just checked and wow.

Yeah in series is nice but not practical for cxa3070 or vero29. I would have no problems with running in parallel myself.

Considdering either of these.

Is the 48V output going to be an efficiency issue, or not get full power with 38.5V cobs?
I could push 4 hard of 5 nicely with it, or dim it

If running in parallel, the hlg 240 is the cheapest dollar per watt. If you run 5 or more, you might want the hlg240-36. I think the over voltage protection starts are around 42 volts and the voltage is adjustable to 38.5 volts. I have some Vero29s @ 25 watts on a cen100-36. They work great.

Running cobs in parallel require same voltage at 0.2V difference max I guess
Cree must have the same vf since they are binned but not the V29 so take care that each vf match the others!
And I like my cxb 3590 @1400mA and wire in series is so easy and they match so good with hlg-185-1400B!

I think that is the best CXA 3000K cob

As far as I know nobody has tested the power draw (4 Vero 29 on HLG-185H-C1400) while in operation. Unless Meanwell is just really modest I suspect the current is being cut to accommodate the voltage which would lower output.

They fit. As far as the more cobs you put on the non c spec drivers current/thus vf drops. If you look at some of the specs on those drivers the efficiency is actually damn good. Let's just say there is a new commercial unit using hlg600-36b fixing to drop lol.
