Back in November 2008, Massachusettes citizens voted in favor of the bill to decriminalized possesion of marijuana under 1 ounce, by a 65% 35% ratio. Passed by the Legislature, the Police may only confinscate marijuana if you possess less than one ounce, and citation you for 100$. Aparently, it is not considered a, "Criminal Offense" for possession under 1 ounce, it is a "Civil Offense", or much like a very expensive parking ticket. State Grow laws & trafficing laws are still unchanged.

I heard this story on a National radio station on the 2nd on my way into work, and it was very enlightening, especially when I took a quick toke 30 minutes before. The District Attorney on the telephone interview with the broadcaster explained that, "Technically citizens are not required to carry forms of Identification while in public places, this being unlike a drivers license which is required to be on your person (on yourself) while driving; and to present it to a Police Officer when requested. Essentially, you cannot be sighted without proof of ID if you're not required to have an ID on the street. Confiscation is all that would/could occur.

I would love to be standing on the street in Boston smoking a big fat DOOBEEEEY

Yes but police can also hold you under investigatory detention. Atleast in my state they can .... Last time I checked it was 72 hours without any charges being brought against you. And the area I live in cops WOULD find a way to take you into custody just to fu** with you.
