Male selection and everything related

Ideally you would do lots of 1:1 crosses and select the best parents based on that. So if you have two strains you want to cross you select say ten potential parents of each and make the 100 potential crosses. Then grow out some of the offspring to test for the best cross.
I still say that for reducing plant counts fem seeds are the way to go.

I need to learn how to breed these marijuana plants on my own. Can't rely forever on the use of feminized seeds. got to learn how they make crosses.
This is the reason why I recently bought regular seeds from a online seedbank. Just hope I do it right so trying to get tips. :)

i ended up just turning my light off and leaving the males to die. i checked em out few days ago and dry stiff. so i harvested the pollen that was there. who thinks the pollen is still viable? well see, i bagged each one seperate so i can see which pollen passes what traits . hopefully lol

Cherry puff pollen sounds good! I know a few strains in my garden I would hit with that.

  • all the males at the last supper........with jim jones
I love the set-up, sir, seriously.
I'm planning on using some short term cardboard breeding areas myself in the near future.
It made sense to me, and I'm glad to see that it made sense to someone else, too :D

I also will flower out clones in small containers to sex them and I let them finish for a sample if they're female and as long as I don't fuck things up they come out fine. Growing in small containers can be quite challenging because the time between the media being moist enough and too dry is very short.

Collecting Pollen from a Nice Stinky male Animal Cookie. Should be ready in a week to harvest. Not sure what I want to cross it with just yet.
I have 30 strains to choose from.:eyesmoke: I do have Blue Dream and a Tangerine Dream germinating, possible candidates;-).

Them males really dried up and stiff hah!
I counted seven in all. Are they all the same strains and came from one batch?
How many turned out to be female? Nice set-up by the way. :)

As far as male selection goes, I have heard you want the male to be recessive, so anytime I have a male of a strain that shows sex after all my females of the same strain, I keep that male aside and will use the pollen in the grow room on a few selected plants. (as long as it's a strain I want to breed with)
