Making hash oil with alcohol

The reason denatured alcohol is called denatured alcohol is because they add a substances to it to make it toxic and undrinkable so it can only be used for cleaning or other industrial purposes without having to worry about kiddies getting a hold of it. So its about as pure as a lake being used for a toxic dump sight....you have fun with that...If I'm going to make an extraction, I don't like a dirty product, which is all iso will give you. The alc does evaporate off, they're party bag of contaminants will stay with your extract.
I hope you're not confusing ISO and denatured alcohol because they are in fact different.

Rubbing alcohol, USP / B.P. is a liquid prepared and used primarily for topical application. It is prepared from a special denatured alcohol solution and contains 97.5-100% by volume of pure, concentrated ethanol

all denatured alc is not iso, all iso is made from denatured, so no, to answer your question I'm not confused in the slightest...well...about this subject at least ;)

so look, again if you don't mind a dirty product, your good, but I don't see the point of separating the goodies out of such a natural clean beautiful thing, just so you can add contaminants to the mix, for that you should have just cured and smoked the clippings...but again, whatever, thats on you, I at least did you the courtesy of telling you how your fucking up, whether you fix it or not is up to you. Ignorance is not knowing, stupidity is knowing and doing it anyways...

You need to get your facts straight before posting buddy.

Denatured Alcohol
Denatured alcohol is ethanol alcohol that has been altered so as to make it undrinkable and poisonous. The chemical structure of the alcohol, however, is not changed. The most common way to denature alcohol is to add methanol, a wood alcohol that is colorless and poisonous. Denatured alcohol is an effective cleaner, typically used as a spot cleaner to remove ink stains from clothes. It's often used a camping stove fuel as it burns clean and hot and can be extinguished with water. Boat owners may know it as methylated spirits, while others know it as shellac thinner or liquid fondue fuel.

Isopropyl Alcohol
Also called isopropanol, this type of alcohol is created through a process using a combination of water and propene, an organic compound. Isopropyl alcohol is used as a solvent and cleaning fluid, based on its characteristic of drying quickly. It is often used to clean electronic devices such as laser lenses in DVD and CD drives. Isopropyl alcohol is an effective disinfectant and seen in health-care settings as a disinfectant solution. It's also known as rubbing alcohol and is typically available in 70 percent to 90 percent isopropyl concentrations

ISO and denatured alcohols are different and there is absolutely no overlap.

when they put it on your skin its not ingested or burned, so no you crackhead. Do you get high by rubbing bud on your arm? no, because were not plants. Hence why for rubbing alc app its still safe, but that doesn't mean burning it and inhaling will have the same results, will it. Or did you fail science in HS? tell you what, use whatever you want...your the one doing it, so your really the only one that has to approve of the method.

sorry if I'm short, but there is a rare thing more annoying than bold ignorance...
your insults are NOT welcome here. :fire:

okay, tell you what homebrewer, you drink it, or burn and inhale it, then get back to me....not the same thing as reg alc, so again, use what you want, I'll stick to spirit...

fdd2blk, if your going to be the insult police, your failing miserably, out of the many insults I've seen as I tear through this forum, this is the first one I've seen you say anything about...or any moderator come to think about it....I was really expecting me and someone I was exchanging dialogue with to get banned, at least temp...(glad ya'll didn't, don't get me wrong...) or are you going with the starfish theory? Regardless, fair enough, it was uncalled for. Sorry Homebrewer...I should know better than to come on here sober...I'm to edgy...

Maybe I missed a post somewhere but the thread is about making hash oil, not boozing. ISO acts as the solvent to extract the trics, THC, whatever, away from the plant matter. The ISO is evaporated out of the product over time leaving you with the concentrate. It may or may not be the best method, but when done properly, it's safe. What chemical do you prefer because I bet the method is very similar.

I'd love to have access to Everclear, but being in California, I'm fairly screwed. I actually prefer butane extraction, but good old isopropyl works just fine.

†perplexed† why don't you have access to everclear in cali? and I already read the wiki either yesterday or the day before...

as far as the method, its Homebrewer its actually EXACTLY the same, except instead of iso I use ever... butane, as much as I avoid working with it, has the potential to give the purest extracts I know of....but I've been happy enough with the alc method, so I havn't felt the need to go there...but I have to admit its superior...

hey, while were on the subject, does anyone else think that you could use this in a blu system? Yes, I know there was a thread already about using blu, but no one brought up the idea of using a syringe to empty out a flavor cartridge, and then refill it with hash oil diluted with just enough distilled water to give it the same consistancy as the original flavor liquid.... anyone think it could work?

before anyone ask why I would want to do that, keep in mind in tx like most of the world smoking a j outside isn't a good idea, but if it was done in blu, theoretically you could get away with taking a hit at a movie theater or airplane...

Google "Isomerizer" . I bought one off ebay for 60 bucks. An loved it!

I gave my brother my OLD 70s isomierizer. Used to use it with mexi brick all the time to make it tolerable.

It swore that adding sulpheric acid for about an hour an then neuturalizing would make alot of the canabanoids into thc!
It said it could turn bunk weed into good hash oil.
(4 drops of ph up for fishes, an 4 drops of ph down per oz was how i used to do it)

I think it realy worked, they had all kinds of chemesrty to back it up in the manual
It made the Best hash oil, FUCKN incredible!

The MOST IMPORTANT PART is to not burn it when the alcohol is all gone if using heat.
AND NO FLAMES AROUND THE ALCOHOL
Use at least a few oz of weed or its kind of a waste.

I believe the everclear works just like denatured.
Rubbing alcohol works to just takes twice as long.

Yeah, but you get my point, so it's all good my friend. I think it's time for me to quit ordering anvils, dynamite, rollerskates, and rocket motors, and just order me some roast bird.

doesn't matter, you'll always end up in pain :p

Hey, no one responded to the blu idea... :(

so, think it could work?

i concur, that 99% iso is just fine to use for extraction, and is not a risk whatsoever(no matter what raven says..). I use a doubleboiler, and it evaps FAST(about 1ltr in 2 hrs).
I leave the oil out a few days to confirm iso evap, then scrape, jar and enjoy. Often i also extract good oil from my vape leavings..just rinse in a jar for 1-2 minutes(vs. 5-10 for prescreened buds).

to the iso argument. Denatured indicates that agents have been added to make it taste bad. You can denature ethyl if you wanted. You don't want denatured, so you get the iso bottle that doesn't say denatured...

Lots of people use acetone to make hash. That is very toxic stuff, however it evaporates leaving something like .001 g/100ml, a very small amount of substance. Pure alcohol's are the same way, hell, you can use chloroform (this is actually very efficient), though it's kinda dangerous to work with while evaporating. The toxicity of the substance doesn't matter much in the finished product, what matters is how 'clean' it evaporates. Ethyl just has a higher chance of leaving you with more distilled water to boil because you usually can't get it in as pure solutions.

You'll never find denatured ISO alcohol because they are 2 different types of alcohol.
