Making a fool of myself, feeling like a failure

First of all, if your gonna say something insulting or troll this thread, don't bother reading or replying

so at 5:30 this morning when i got off the rig, the 4-5 hours of intense heart burn surfaced and i pulled over twice to puke my guts out. This has happened every day of work. I drove 1/3 the way back to camp (a half hour) and pulled over feeling too dizzy to drive. Started shaking uncontrollably...thought about quitting but set my alarm and slept in my car for 4 hours, then drove to the rig tonight. I told the tool pusher (whose been in the field for 20 years, lost a finger and has macular degeneration...so he's going blind) that I can't handle the chemical exposure. He shook my hand and said no problem you gave it a try. I gave it 4 tries, with 4 diff companies...yet I'm still feeling like I failed

this sucks and idk what my next steps are yet, but I WILL figure it out because all I have is my car and i need to survive. Those 3 days on the rig gave me prob a little over $1,200...and that goes quickly, but I'll pick up day-jobs in the meantime till I figure things out. I'm just upset because I can handle the physical labor of the rig, which is NOT easy...lifting/moving 80 100-lb bags off 2 pallets, running up/down the rig floor 3-stories high all day sometimes carrying 40 lb buckets or tools, lifting 300-lb slips all day, swinging 500-lb tongs or spinners, etc. but I cannot handle the chemical exposure...that invert (drilling fluid) is some nasty shit. All the guys on the rig will show you purplish-black spots on their skin that look like warts.

I'm gonna look into being a firefighter i think. My true love is botany, I love creating things...but idk if that's a job that pays the bills (legally anyway...i'm trying to roll legit unless I do a personal medical-licensed grow sometime in the future) or just a hobby...

I'll put the pieces together soon enough and make a move

Man sorry to hear this.

You are no failure. That is tough shit, your dizziness and puke is most likely a mix of being dehydrated & the mix of fluids you encounter. If you are still around there try hydrating with massive amounts of fluids. see if it helps, never been on a rig but from my football day what you feel is the same thing I got when I was dehydrated. It was so bad i had kidney failure and borderline dialysis machine patient ,so drink up.

you may be blaming the chemicals when its really your physical status, just saying. If your lower body goes full cramp you need to go to the hospital.

ex:
your toe cramps so you move your leg
then your calf cramps while triyng to position your leg
then your hamstrings while trying to fix that
then your ass
then your back

you never want to be in this pain. i had a full body cramp and i could not even move to call for help

now where was i.... ahh yes, dehydration. Na it wasn't that, I drank a ton of water all day...today the guys were like "ahh you got invert fever" i'm like what the fuck?? howcome nobody warned me about this?!
hey dont kid yourself, you think as a football player didn't drink tons of water too. You need electrolytes too. (salty foods and Gatorade,) not a lot but enough

thanks bro. the first rig I worked on, the labor was about the same and I drank enough fluids then...but the difference was we were drilling the surface well 2,200 feet on average, with plain water. Didn't get sick once.

There's a condition called asbestosis that workers get when exposed to drilling fluids

i don't know what kind of rig you're talking about but i worked at a machine shop once that turned my health to shit in 8 months. lots of weird chemicals and solvents and such.

i had weird bone pain at random all over my body and one day i was walking across the floor and the lower part of my right leg and foot went numb. i could feel sensations but the leg and foot did not work and i developed a limp. i was fainting a couple times a week and my bones felt like they were turning to dust and i was pretty sure i was going to die. i had all sorts of blood work and scans done and they found nothing wrong and started treating me like a hypochondriac. a few months later i was hospitalized with chest pain that they found no real cause for and they sent me home with acid reflux pills. i then quit smoking ciggs which actually seemed to make the problem worse, or maybe it was just actually getting worse. hell if i know.

3 months after i quit the job all these problems mysteriously started disappearing. there were people who worked in that shop for years who had no problems at all besides missing fingers and eyes. for whatever reason my body couldn't handle it, which is a shame because it's the type of work i'm best suited for. i've worked in other shops with no problems, but there was something in that place that was toxic as fuck. it took over a year for my skin to clear up but i attribute that to all the oil and filth, but who knows?

get another job. that's all i can say.

Who's gonna be more disappointed, dad, for floating you yet another loan you're going to fall through on, or mom, for talking dad into "one more time"?
