Make Easy Money from Shopping at Thrift Stores

Man, if you're really lucky-maybe. I saw three necklaces at my local thrift which were SIMULATED ruby, sapphire, and emerald. Goodwills around the country are pre-sorting a lot of their stuff and selling the good stuff on their online auction site. But you might get lucky and they may miss it. Unless it's a sizable diamond, though, most gems aren't worth that much-pawn shops have loads of them sitting around when they harvest scrap gold.
As an aside, I recently sold a big costume lot for 1800 dollars. But this time of year overall has been slow. I went to a local auction a few months ago, paid a total of like 110 on six different pieces-some Mexican silver jewelry and a costume piece from the 40's called Thief of baghdad. The theif was $12, and sold for $60. The two piece Mexican silver set I paid $40 for went for 200. The necklace I paid 20 for went for 175. The other set, a bracelet and pin, paid 40, went for 200. They weren't even listed for a day. Vintage Mexican silver jewelry, from Taxco, especially signed pieces by known artists, can go for a TON and it's really hot right now. Be careful, though, because there are a lot of fakes.
Can I find some real gems in thrift store?

LOl, I'm playing five roll right now! But no, I don't think I'd win. They always go to nice houses. Never seen prize patrol pull up on a shanty where they open the door and scream, "Thank goodness you got here! We were about to eat PAINT!"
Anyway, doing this isn't as much of a gamble...at least you're going to get some money back.
Have you tried pch stoney? That million dollar give away at your door

There are a lot of people that do what you do. you could call yourself a picker or a peddler. Object is just simply buy low, and sell high, and it works with all kinds of merchandise. Ive heard of a lot of people making money on eBay, thats how some people make a living. Sometimes it works vice-versa. I made quite a hefty amount of cash from buying these mini pocket dirt bikes off of eBay, this was multiple years ago now, before everybody knew they were crap. just little 49 cc miniature dirt bikes, and they went for cheap, with shipping total was about two hundred dollars. I would turn around and ask 600 o.b.o, for each bike, easily doubling my money. But everybody started getting those bikes and finding out that they break very frequently and parts are expensive to ship in. Im sure there is all sorts of things that you can get cheap and sell high, just takes some experience. :leaf:

You're right. Experience, and the desire to never have a supervisor standing over your shoulder again!

Some of the Salvation Army stores are good for this, but as previously mentioned stay away on senior day...unless you enjoy that sort of thing.
