Hi, more light, better results! It is that simple, if you provided a budget that you have to live by, that would have made your question easier to answer.
Having said that, I've seen one plant grown under a 1000 watt hps, with two 400 watts as side lighting, and it yeilded 3.5 lbs.
If your budget is $50.00 or less you have no decision to make except cfl's, if you can come up with slightly more, get a 400 watt hps.
As your budget grows, so do your options.

42w 2700k CFLs are 2600 lumens. Sounds like 4. I have 10 for 5 plants, but a little different setup.

My plants are surrounded by light and in an enclosed area with push / pull vent. Not that it is that big of a deal, but I have not see it before. See enclose pic.

I also have 5 18w eco-floros, but they are not doing much in light of the CFLs. They are what I started out with. I added the CFLs after figuring out I needed much more light to find success.

I have 6 plants under a 430 watt hps, so thats like 9000 lumens per plant.

You get what you put into it and then more! Remember that. Try to get the proper materials and the results will speak for themselves.
