LST top break off...technique?

I have some super slow veggers that I LSTed and only two responded well. I let the other two off the tie down. On one of the plants I left tied down I ended up accidentally breaking the original top off. It then proceeded to grow/bush out extremely well with little to no shock after my mistake. About 5 or 6 new "tops" started growing out very fast. One side branch from the bottom of the plant grew a whole foot even, in like a week, which is 10x faster than these plants grow when left alone.

Has anyone ever tried this on purpose? Tie the top down, keep tying it down, let about 4-8 side branches turn up, then break the original top off? or pinch it even? Or try with this with an already topped plant(kinda sounds counterproductive from that state though)? Growth accelerated so much it was cool too see. I started flowering a week ago due to kind of having a time constraint and I dont need much bud, but we'll see if those tops produce more than little nugs. I know if I let them grow longer I would've had 6 prime tops to flower.

i tie down in late veg/early flower to help fill in empty spaces. i usually end up with about a dozen tops, and no wasted/open space. you don't have the one big cola, like you do if you don't fim/top, but you yield more, well i do, lol.

You sure you didnt make it rush flower?..... maybe you hit it right before flower stretch and it was like "oh shit! I have zero real budsites, lets maximize height and maybe hermie"?

edit- wait. you started flower a week ago. absolutely nothing special here

Id only worry if it does "start" flowering within a week. Otherwise its just a poor fim/top that obviously stimulated the plant, and likely fixed an overabundance problem. Its a situational technique, losing a lot of growth, but getting increased growth/girth/yield, etc. Ever heard of mainlining? If not, please don't post in "Advanced Marijuana Cultivation."

lol, mainlining is advanced. advanced waste of time! he can post where ever he wants...
Mainlining is basic af. And is somewhat similar. thats my point. No, I did not recommend mainlining.

If you like topping/fimming/even canopy techniques, I prefer recommending vscrog.

No I didn't accidntaly FIM it. I broke the top of like 2 or 3 nodes down, at the stem, not at the growth tip. These plants don't stretch hardly at all during flower but it might've gotten a little rush response I suppose. There's bubba and La Con in the strain. The strain barely grows lol.

I was actually looking to do exactly what Silky does, Tie down right before flower and end up with a filled in plant. Then I broke the top stem off... and that one plant actually responded vigorously, the auxins redistributed well. These plants just didn't really respond well to the late LST until after my accident. I was pleasantly surprised by the results. idk though, we'll see what my harvest ends up like. I have the plants I left alone, the one late LST regular, and the LST broken one to compare. So cool, I guess I'll try it again in the future vs some other experiments since no one so far does this on purpose :P I can understand why lol. If it quickly creates a beastly vigorous bush then that would be cool.

I know what mainlining is :/ I think I broke it 3 or 4 days before flower.. so perhaps nothing special then... still fun though. I'll show you a comparison picture.

So it's the two plants on the left in the ALL picture. See what I'm saying? One in the back grew long ol' branches, the other is still squat and barely even looks like I did any training to it. Next time I'll try it purely during veg just to see.

Not all strains respond the same to same training tech.. Sounds like your accidental topping showed you that your strain would rather be topped instead of low stress bending. Good luck with your grow. B Happy!

I would say that's true but they're such slow veggers I would've waited at least a week for two new tips to grow out. What I did kinda circumvented that sorta. Thx for the great replies everyone. Hope for a few more!
