Low THC/High CBD for my parents - Canada?

Hey guys,

Both my parents want to try some low thc/high cbd strains. My father used to smoke stuff I would get from the street and it helped him sleep when his back was bade, he's had a bunch of back surgeries. I've been telling them about the high cbd/low thc stuff.

My mother has something that is not fully diagnosed yet. Her head and hand shakes and she has pain and numbness in her hands. I want this mostly for her, and the past few times she's tried pot she couldn't handle the THC, she would get sick and puke and have to lie down. So she wants to try something that won't get her stoned.

It seems the best CBD Strains are only available by clone, and not in Canada, or at least anywhere I have access to.

I have been looking at the "CDB Crew" strains but a lot of those still have like at least 6% THC. Is there anywhere I can buy seeds closer to an ACDC or Charlottes web where there is almost no THC?

Thanks

Cannatonic and pennywise and Harlequin sposed to be good if you find the right phenotype.

Idk what kind of green you gave your ma, but I know that taking more than a couple hits of good smoke if you have little to no tolerance will make almost anybody sick.. The 2-3 times I have had to quit/cut back I remember having to ease back into things.. I say that because I'm guessing u would have a better chance gettin your ma acclimated to a lower dose of thc than you will at finding that 0 thc clone outside of a select few circles.

Best of luck!

Coppertop, make no mistake about it ..... a high cbd plant can/will get you stoned. I have grown several, and when you pack a bowl and smoke it you are high. It's a little different high than a typical bud, but you're still baked none the less.

What you should do for your mom is make an oil that isn't activated. IOW, don't heat it. You could make ice water hash and infuse that in to room temperature coconut oil, or you could use a bubble-bag and some dry ice and just do a sift (which you would add to coconut oil as well).

If you do it this way she will not get high, and will still benefit from the attributes of whatever strain you're working with.

Just a thought as it's difficult to find CBD only strains. Why have them smoke it at all? The body effects are better and even high THC plants won't get you blasted, mainly body effects if you eat or drink it instead of smoking it. Any Indica strain is great in tea, I drink one pretty well every night before bed, just drop a bud in your favourite tea (I use camomile at night, combined with a bud it's also a sleeping pill), steep it for 10 minutes, squeeze out the bud into the tea and you're good to go.

John Berfelo has a haileys comet cut if you are anywhere in or around Vancouver you might be able to track him down online and seek out a cut.

CBD from seed is tough man. There's no telling which individuals inherited the high cbd trait and who what varying degree of cbd is present. You could always try a home test product but their accuracy can't be all that great. At least it can show if there is presence of cbd or not. http://cbscientific.com/

I think st0w has the right idea. Live resin might be something to consider greatly.

Also not every seed you pop is going to be high cbd low thc. You will need to phenol hunt to find the strain that will fit your needs or get it as a clone.

I tried pennywise and there was 0 cbd in mine... pissed me off but its the luck of the draw.

I know it would be great to be able to say "we can take out all of the stuff that gets you high and leave all the magic stuff that doesn't get you high" but I think part of what makes the 1:1 a preferred ratio is the undeniable medical benefit THC brings to the table as well.. Hell, I think I remember reading that a portion of the people who were going after the 0% THC for their sick kids found that a small amount was actually needed to kinda "round it all out.

What do I really know though? I'm mostly parroting information regarding this subject as I only have somewhat minimal first hand experience regarding CBDs.

Yeah, when she told me my brother was going to give her some to try I made sure to tell her to start with only 1-2 puffs, but it still got her stoned haha. Which is kinda weird because I have smoked with my mm before a long time ago and she was fine.

Something to look into for sure.

Does those test kits you can buy work well for CBD and THC? Where I live it would be hard to get it tested, but if they worked I could test some and make sure to find a good pheno and clone it.

Yeah man, I've also been hearing that a 1:1 ratio is good because they work together and that the CBD kinda takes away a lot of the high if it's around 1:1. I plan to experiment with that by trying to find a high cbd/low thc pheno and then some 1:1's at different percentages to test it. I am also very interested in this because THC makes me have a panic attack these days and I have Anxiety. I would like to find something that works for Anxiety but does not give me that numb head and confusing high feeling. I manage to do okay with 1 puff from my vaporizer but any more than that I freak out, and I used to smoke a lot.

Yeah from what I've read/heard it's all about the full plant cannabinoid profile. They all work in unison. Even the terps apparently. We'll start getting more and more solid info in regards to all this as legalization ball keeps rolling.

I have no clue, I used to live in the city and the machine was readily available to me. I just walk in grind it up and put it in the machine and then it popped out numbers. I have never tried those test kits at home... part of the reason is I just don't like looking at spots and trying to diagnose them like those black ink splotters.

I just posted this yesterday in another thread, growing out Harlequin BX4 from BC Bud Depot. It's supposedly a 1:1 strain that I want for my edibles and some patients that can use the CBD. It's supposedly somewhere between 7%-12% of each depending on pheno and when you harvest. Easy to grow if you grow or know someone who does, it's been a breeze so far and I'm 3 weeks into flowering now, pic was taken at day 14 of 12/12.

Nice. I'm curious how a 5% CBD/5% THC would compare to like a 12%CBD/12% THC.

Thanks, no idea though, haven't smoked any of the high CBD strains, this is a first grow and if it lives up to its billing I'm excited to try it. I have a couple of older patients that can really use it and this would be a good nighttime strain in my tea. It's so difficult to gage the stone/high based solely on THC/CBD content, there are so many variables and other cannabinoids that can affect the high. Other than going by someone who has tried a few strains it's a bit of a crap shoot.

The CBD seems to be a codominant allele in the plant. Meaning a high THC and high CBD low THC plant crossed should result in a balanced mix. If you were to F2 those you should see 25% high CBD and 25% high THC and 50% in between. Hypothetically anyway... it is possible it's linked to more than one gene which will change the picture a bit.

The Vics and Ted Smith's club in Victoria almost always have high CBD medicine available, although not pure CBD. My understanding is the Skunk Haze that Ted's club has is higher in CBD than THC.
